The 2016 movie Arrival and a concept/key part of the movie that I believe is overlooked and maybe this subreddit may have some insight/debate on. Potential movie spoilers fyi
I love how physics challenged me and continues to do so. I am not going to focus on the concept of time, as many get confused to how the aliens see time and how the movie showing the main character with her daughter in the beginning is actually the future, etc. I think that the alien mentioning the other alien was not there near the end of the movie due to “death process” is a thing many haven’t pondered at all as a CRITICAL POINT. That the aliens are showing there is an entity and life after death.
I took college level physics one and two (so not a genius haha). Essentially I believe this remark from the alien along with not communicating that they are sad and mourning(although the Human character immediately expresses sadness for their “loss”to the alien) is a huge and overlooked concept….that we all give off an energy and that does not necessarily cease with death but instead that energy changes forms. That death is a process and not a loss it is a “death process” aka energy conversion. That statement alone would leave many people skeptical or some might say oh that is only pertinent to those who believe in God and an afterlife. Below, copy and pasted, js exactly what I am trying to discuss in a concise manner :
“As we know through thermodynamics, energy cannot be created nor destroyed. It simply changes states. The total amount of energy in an isolated system does not, cannot, change. And thanks to Einstein, we also know that matter and energy are two rungs on the same ladder.
The universe as a whole is closed. However, human bodies (and other ecosystems) are not closed — they’re open systems. We exchange energy with our surroundings. We can gain energy (again, through chemical processes), and we can lose it (by expelling waste or emitting heat).
In death, the collection of atoms of which you are composed (a universe within the universe) are repurposed. Those atoms and that energy, which originated during the Big Bang, will always be around. Therefore, your “light,” that is, the essence of your energy — not to be confused with your actual consciousness — will continue to echo throughout space until the end of time.”
If you read this far thank you!
