actually, there are a number of fighters (including a few Combat Archers) I know of who use something similar for the battlefield.

Like... this guy?

I have no idea on the durability of these, though. I suppose with a combat archer in light gear it might be a bit easier since you're not going to be taking hits.

There is no one on the Armored Combat field that is not a full contact participant anymore; even scouts are required to wear full heavies armor.

I've seen them put in shields. I don't know how one would put it in a helmet without it being in the way/getting annhilated.

The way an acquaintance does it is under the brim of his kettle helm.

I could see that working, though requires wearing a kettle helm, which noo thanks. The brim makes such a lovely place for swords to catch on hahah.

Plus hard to document vikings in kettle helms ;)

You could just stick it inside one of your horns! Horns on helmets are period, right? ;)

I've got a friend who put one on the middle of his pike, and the top of his helmet. Both sets of footage were shaking, but interesting.

If you want to go a helmet cam, I would get a GoPro http://gopro.com/ camera. It is the one that is used in extreme sports. The hard case is designed to take a hell of a lot of damage, but still come through it well. I'm a free lance videographer and I can attest to these being great. I helped filmed a local bull riding event, and had one strapped to a clown with the chest rig, and a couple on a pole that we would stick down in the chutes with the bulls.

I went down to the Sherwood Forest Faire outside of Austin, Texas, where the Knights of Mayhem, http://www.knightsofmayhem.com/, the jousting group, sets up shop. They had these cams strapped to their jousts for footage of the runs.

You could put one on a helm, you would just have to be careful that a swing doesn't knock it off, or there is the chest rig that would mount it right in the middle of the chest. Another thought would be to mount it right above the hilt of a sword, and get some great footage from the vantage of the sword itself.

We haven't used that particular camera, but someone let us borrow a camera that looked like a flashlight and we duck taped it to one fighter's helm and got this (raw/not edited) footage: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dpj4u-0CK-o&list=UUpKBxne_hEN8kVcrZQ-zv7Q&index=4&feature=plcp

Camera was mounted on Achilles of Sparta on the right side of his crest. He suggested that if one of the local fighters were to purchase a camera for future use, he would create a new crest with a pocket it could fit in. Because of the construction of the casing, only a thrust directly to the lens could do any damage.
