If Citadel were actively trying to destroy AMC, then yeah, it would be pretty surprising for them to be given VIP treatment.
The Occam's razor explanation of course is that Citadel aren't trying to destroy AMC (were they even shown to be shorting them?) but that's a bit too radical an idea for apes.

Lots of people don't know what a CEO does, but it's mostly organizing team building events for other companies.
They believe the CEO is to promote the squeeze. It's comedic gold whenever they have an aneurysm, realizing his job duties are vastly more in depth.
