Great visual sef, but if you use calv one more time I'm going to give a new meaning to the term deep throat. By that i mean i'm going to rip off your head and fuck your wind pipe.

This strikes me as something that is good in theory but will fall apart in practice. FIrst off the unit will probably get an initial volley off killing a few horsemen, secondly this will take more co-ordination than you might think, third this will probably require practice and lets be honest our appearance at training is sporadic at best and this entire tactic is reliant on threevery unreliable conditions. They no longer have cav, we are able to get a sufficently strong line into position and that they are unable to reinforce intime to save themselves.

This could be used and work to varying degrees but honestly untill the brigade rises beyond being a glorified pub line we're probably not gonna manage this kind of thing

Actually as Cav we have done this multiple times. With and without the volley before the charge. I'm just writing a bunch of things that we have done before anyhow and just putting it down. This tactic was by no means original or just pure theory crafting. We are not just any glorified pub line, we are a well coordinated pub army with 3-4 pub lines. We are able to use tactics like this because of our chain of command and coordination.

I reckon it's worth trying out, regardless. You're right that it'll probably be a rare situation that we get to use this when, having eliminated the enemy cav, ours still has enough to retain effectiveness for this sort of thing. And I thought of the same thing, the danger of being shot at while circling the enemy, and I suppose the best response when doing this tactic is to only start it when the infantry is really close, just over a hill or something. That'll give the cav the chance to disorient/bunch up the enemy, at which point infantry can pop over the hill.

Some of the 33rd's most amazing charges are were conducted when Ser Disgruntld uses a similar strategy. As long as the cav doesn't try to jump into a block of infantry without infantry support this works amazingly well. The infantry should always hit first because the melee always separates the formation out and it turns into a lot of 1v1s and this allows cav to move in and strike at unsuspecting foes.

I tried something similar last night in a commander battle and got totally wtfpwned. Sad day for me.

I think, in retrospect, I should've done the following:

  • Waited for the line inf I was with to get into position and open fire, hopefully forcing the enemy to also fire at the far-away inf.

  • I was dragoon, so I should've fired an initial volley as well before my charge (?)

  • Charged at them, and then immediately backed away so my inf partner could get another volley w/o friendly fire.

But, the way I did it I just fucking went for it and got decimated. They fired at me point blank, then I didn't pull out in time to not be totally crushed by bayonettes. I think I got out of the first charge with 3 men, and then we promptly got slaughtered by reinforcements on the next hill over.

This tactic doesn't work in commander battles. :X Cav in commander battles are terrible because you can't hit and run. AI cav gets bogged down way too easily.

That's good to know, actually. I played one more round as cav, but honestly the AI really doesn't listen very well. I kept trying to get them to take cover on the other side of a hill, but I guess what they thought I was saying was "Hey, stand where the other guy can shoot you, lol!".

After those two rounds I went back to line inf.

yea... the AI basically faces each other and well, cav is really hard to use to say the least. Maybe on a good game, you can get a 1-1 ratio in commander battles but after the initial awesome charge with AI cav, you need to get them out of the fight as soon as possible.

Practiced with the EPI once and they did something similar, I ignored the direction of attack circle and snubbed 3 people... they were mad

I hope this 'calv' thing is a joke I've missed.
