What did they do do Cymanti?

I hate Cymanti. I usually have them turned off so I don’t have to play against them. But I figured, what the hell, I will turn them back on. It will be a challenge.

I noticed that my units convert to Cymanti without any Shaman on the screen. There is some fog of war hiding an area. But I had a 2 square boundary all the way around my swordsman when he was converted. So what the heck is going on?
