smashbox foundation and primer

i am still learning makeup and just read that you should use water based primers with water based foundations, silicone primers with silicone foundations, etc otherwise your makeup will separate.

i want to try out the smashbox studio skin 24h hydra foundation with their photo finish foundation primer, but the foundation seems to be water based while the primer is silicone based. customer service told me i could still use them together, but i wanted to hear about some firsthand experiences first.

TLDR has anyone used the smashbox studio skin 24h hydra foundation with the smashbox photo finish foundation primer? has it ever separated on you?
