I just picked up a PT job in camp at REI, could use some advice

I’m primarily a climber and any backpacking I’ve done has been to get to a climb. I never packed light and just put up with being miserable on the trail.

Because of this, I have very little experience with backpacking pads/bags.

I was told I’d learn as time went on and I could always call for backup, but with the A sale coming up, I’d like to have some helpful suggestions for people looking for gear for their first trips. We have a ton of new backpackers that come in.
