Was anyone else forced to include younger siblings on playdates?
Because my mother "didn't want to referee" I was forced to include my little sister who's 8 years younger than me whenever I've had a friend over for the entire playdate, the only reprieve I got was when I either went to their house or it was her nap time. So when I was 11 and 12 I was forced to include a three and four year old on my play dates except when she was having a nap.
Not only did it royally suck to have to entertain a toddler when I'm trying to have some time with my friends, it made other kids not want to play with me or come to my house anymore.
This is fucked up beyond belief, the play date is supposed to be an enriching experience for the child that's not supposed to be a break for the parent.
So what if she has to deal with whining and crying that's part of having a toddler and a preschooler.
And as I got older my mother wondered why I wasn't more social. I decided it wasn't worth it to have friends over if it just meant I was going to have to babysit, which it really was just Co babysitting, and I think it helped ruin my relationship with my sister as I am no contact with both my parents and her.
