Quite surprised/Slightly Annoyed

General

I was unaware that city workers could come onto personal property and touch personal belongings without notice.

This morning, I came outside of my house and found two city workers in a city vehicle whom had put a boot on my vehicle. I inquired why this might be and was told that it was due to two unpaid parking Tickets from 2015 that were registered on my license and that a tow truck was on the way to tow the vehicle.

Now all things aside, it should be said that I was very kind to these gents and asked if I could pay off these tickets on the spot and they kindly showed me how to do it and then removed the boot off of my vehicle and cancelled the tow truck.

My concern is not with the tickets (which I honestly have no recollection of receiving 7 years ago).

If I have done wrong, I will pay the fine. I consider that part of living in the city. My issue is that I had no correspondence from the City of Saskatoon about this via mail at all in the last 7 years, no calls, no mail ? I mean I have a mailbox and pay property tax, and I receive a bill from the city for Hydro. Nobody could get ahold of me?

Had I missed these guys, I would have walked out to assume my vehicle had been stolen (hopefully they would have left some sort of notice on the door?) and would have been responsible to pay to get it out of the impound? For two parking tickets...from seven years ago.

That being said, the fellas in the truck were very kind and respectful, I do wish they would have attempted to knock on my door and let me know what's happening rather then let me stumble into it. I would have happily paid the fine and moved on, it was quite a violating feeling to have someone on your property doing something like that. I understand, not everyone is amicable, but you think you'd maybe look up someone to see if they have any bad history in the city? I don't know. Something.

I guess overall I understand the situation but definitely had a sour taste in my mouth on how the city is handling it's money collection. Seemed a little overkill for something so petty.

Oh well, life goes on. Just wanted to vent I suppose. Have a good day everyone.
