Nadia frustrates me

Discussion

This is just a minor rant/mino peet pev with the show, overall i think it's great but Nadia is so crass and clumsy. Sometimes it feels like things work out how she wants because either other characters are to be made dumber or just out of pure luck.

I like she's not a mary sue and that she was several flaws as a persona but one would believe she had learned some finesse at this point, but no, she just bulldoze her way through things. And it always work out.

Honestly as someone who's a perfectionist or over-thinker, who's paralyzed at the thought of being bad at something and would rather do nothing than something less than perfection, i kinda admire that about her.

I'm nihilistic and depressed and what do i do? Sit in my room overthinking about things, heck i would be categorized as Alan when it comes to neuroticism (except I'm not clean and in control).

She is what it looks like when you give no fucks. You think things will fall apart, but they are falling apart when you care.

She doesn't give a fuck, and life words the way she wants because that's how life really works. Nothing is as big or serious as we make it to be. And people we surround ourselves with are a reflection of who we are.

She has surrounded herself with open-minded, out of the box thinkers because that's how she is. You'll notice most of the people in Alan's life are uptight and judgmental/restrictive, because that's how he is.

I think our issue is, we take life too seriously, so we are met with consequences of it. If we stop giving a fuck, our life won't fall apart as much as we think it will.

I mean if you gonna time travel and inhabit someone else body might as well be careful on their body. But Nadia isn't. Great comment but it only reinforces what I believe.

Haha yeah I was wondering why she (nadia as Nora) hasnt been locked up for acting like her daughter, until she did get locked up. But not for acting like her daughter, but for being schizo Nora. I was also screaming my head off why Nadia was smoking in Nora's body with baby nadia inside her! But it probably wasn't even Nadia smoking, it was just Nora, because as we know, Nadia was smoking Nora's favorite brand of cigarettes, not her own. I don't think Nadia actually had that much control of Nora's body and therefore her fate.

The thing is, it doesn't matter. I almost think those people couldn't even hear the difference. They were willing to ignore whatever she was throwing at them. Even Alan said some shady things as his grandma, but no one took him seriously.

Maybe there was some filter on the world, or maybe it wasn't them actually going back in time to the actual past, and those people were just NPCs, designed to act that way no matter what was said because the past is already gone and can't be changed. It wouldn't surprise me if Nora actually did try to get the Krugerrands back in actuality and they got stolen on the train in the original timeline.

There are many ways to look at something, or someone. There is the rigid meaning. The black and white. This is right, this is wrong, and care must be taken to ensure that status quo is maintained. We are afraid that if we don't manage to place things in their rightful places, that things will break. I think most of us fall in this category.

There is another way where things are more fluid, addicts, mental health patients, artists etc look at life through this. To them, things are not black and white, but grey, and several shades of grey, and those shades change all the time. There is no stability for them. There is no comfort knowing what is right and what is wrong, because those things change.

I think the creators of the show wanted to create something artistic, and so we have to travel into the show with their mindset, if we are dazed and confused that's because the person who designed it is dazed and confused as well.

I, like you, like things to be a certain way, and if it were me in my mom's body, i would take great care to not mess things up and do my best to fit in, because that's what rationality demands, and that's where comfort is.

However lately, i dont know if it's my mental health, or just me growing up, life is not as black and white, and even the greys are not stable in their shade. Suddenly, life is unsure and uncertain, and the next step could be glory or doom. It gives me great comfort to know that life is not as rigid as I once thought, and it is actually up to us to make it what we want.

There should be some comfort in knowing that you can be a massive fuck up like Nadia, make the wrong choices all the time and still find good friends and a loving family, that you can never fuck up life no matter what the stupid shit you do.

"I was also screaming my head off why Nadia was smoking in Nora's body with baby nadia inside her!"

In the 80s it was still common for women to smoke while pregnant, though somewhat frowned upon.

I absolutely love that Nadia is so chaotic, and Alan is so uptight.

I understand why Nora was smoking, I was frustrated why Nadia was smoking in Nora's body, considering she knows the risks, and one would think to take care of someone else's body. It ties into OP's frustration that Nadia didn't care enough to be careful.

I really identify with Alan in being uptight, haha, if only I had the discipline.

I do love Nadia though, wish i could be more like her and just not give a fuck.

I mean, you can call it all being pointless (not finished the season) but then she could just have tried grabbing a gun from a soldier than by the logic you're exposing, wouldn't change a thing.

Honestly, I hate time travel in storytelling. It is always the same, either nothing you do can change things or trying to change things becomes a paradox. Or my favorite, changing things works but for some reason it is almost always for the worst the the MC realizes they just have to let time run its course.

But for a minor example, following the logic that Nadie could have been able to change things. She getting up an leaving her bag while she tried to grab Alan's attention (who was on another train) was fucking stupid. Like of course someone would take your bag if you're that clumsy.

Finish the season, it'll answer some questions, but i will just say "the destination is not important, it's the journey that matters", so even if the destination has not been reached, as long as something was gained during the journey, it could be enough.

I love time travel for the exact reason, you can change everything about an event, and it could end up as "yeah that's what happened the first time, we just didn't know the reason behind it". Mostly it just allows the mind to express physics and the universe as something fluid and generate a whole lot of ideas. Good for the creative types, or general mindfucks.

Well first of all, addicts are frustrating. Second of all, that's all a facade that she has created in order to protect herself. That's an element that Natasha and Nadia share. They basically modeled themselves after famous male comedians and performers like Groucho Marx and Columbo, In order to control the image.

Another famous Hungarian Jew named Fannie Brice who chose comedy because she didn't think she was pretty. She also lived in New York and chose a very brash personality so that she wouldn't be competing with the Mary Sue. She used it to pave her own way and make sure that people were always laughing with her and never at her. That's what Nadia is doing. She thinks her life is a joke, so she's going to make sure that she's the one writing the joke. Whole point of season 2 is that she eventually has to learn how to take that down and be vulnerable in order to ask for the help that she needs and forgive. It's all about learning how to be less fake.
