Download Issue on Mac

So I am a newcomer when it comes to this game as it was recommended to me by some friend, but I am having difficulty getting the application to work. My Mac spec are up to date, sporting the modern Mac OS with 16 gigs of ram and more than enough space for the download itself, along with owning an Ethernet connection. I am following the directions straight from the FF14 website, but whenever I attempt to open the application to download, it only shows the download bar for a half-second before what I think is a console saying that the download is shutting down. This all happens very quickly, and I have unfortunately been unable to get visuals of this conundrum. If anyone has had a problem like this, I would love to hear you guys out.
