[Complete] [92k] [YA] Now The Wind Scatters
Hi! After two years, several revisions, a rewrite, and enough plot changes and cut characters to fill an entire other novel, I’m finally seeking betas for my book Now The Wind Scatters, a reimagining of a Greek myth. I have one beta reader currently but I’d like to have a couple of more eyes on the work if possible. I’m primarily looking for feedback on voice, character, and themes. I’m also interested in feedback from trans individuals on how a particular character is represented in the narrative. I’ll send the work via email as a pdf if interested. I’m willing to critique swap!
Synopsis: Iphigenia, Princess of Mycenae, seems to have it all. She’s a dutiful eldest daughter, beloved by her people, and blessed with the freedom to roam up and down the mountains of her lifelong home. She’s also a witch in training, studying energies far older even than the gods of her countrymen. It’s an idyllic life, save for the terrifying fate that’s been looming over her head since a midwife first announced her birth - marriage. She doesn’t know why the prospect of being wed to a man scares her so deeply, but she doesn’t intend on finding out through experience. Iphigenia believes she has more time to find a way to circumvent destiny, but when two of her father’s generals arrive with a message calling for her hand in marriage, Iphigenia finds herself turning to arts so dark not even she nor her teacher fully understand them. That decision will have effects that will rock not only her family’s fate, but that of the entire Aegean sea as the gods watch it all come tumbling down.
Set against the backdrop of the Trojan War, Now The Wind Scatters is a sapphic reimagining of Euripides’ Iphigenia in Aulis and Iphigenia in Tauris, inspired partially by a segment of Hesiod.
Content warnings: domestic violence, child murder, war time violence, homophobia, transphobia, period typical slavery, mentions of sexual assault, power imbalanced relationships
