My Thor Love and Thunder theory that's very unlikely to happen
I don't usually fall for hype but this teaser and the focus on self discovery is making me write a film in my head which I'm struggling to not fall in love with and inevitably be disappointed in the cinema.
So before more trailers come out I want to write this pitch here.
(to alleviate confusion Thor refers to Thor Odinson, not Jane Foster)
So we know Gorr is going to be the villain, if you don't read the comics Thor God of Thunder: God Butcher/Godbomb is a great read and I highly recommend it... but I want film Gorr to be nerfed, a lot. Basically I want him to mostly attack Thor verbally (though for the sake of action I'd like him to be enough of a challenge that in the end Thor and Jane need to tag team on him, à la the Cap/Bucky vs Toby fight in civil war).
Why?
Because the teaser sold me on a self discovery story. Thor lost his identity as ruler of Asgard by ceding the throne to Valkyrie, he lost his identity as Avenger(/Guardian of the Galaxy) member, he seems to be losing his identity as Thor to Jane and now Gorr is challenging his identity as a god. And that will be done more affectively IMO with a preacher type character than the way the comics had him scream his philosophy at Thor in between hitting him.
Unless the self discovery angle is a big red herring, I doubt Gorr wouldn't serve this function even in a more action oriented film. But thinking of him as a more dramatic villain is really making my wheels spin. Like it's Taika Watiti and the MCU, it's going to be more of an action-comedy than the coming of age drama I'm envisioning in my head, but did want to write this down and just off-load the idea.
