I Love my Cat (Sound file available)

Poem

I think he's soft and squishy, just like a rat!

Mum says I can't play with him and my baseball bat,

But when I wake up in my baby bed, I look for where he's at.

I Love my Cat

I laughed as he ruined my mate's board game mat.

Can't take him to school even though my friends think he would rule,

Zipping and zooting under the table and avoiding the pool.

I Love my Cat.

I wish he'd help me learn instead of stare from the stool.

Some energy still placed, but replaced with a grace undeniably cool.

Girls like hanging under the table and splashing in the pool without him i'd seem flat.

I Love my Cat.

I got my job when I left school, they gave me a hat.

Now grey and white, our old man has a bit of a drool.

Don't think that, he's still majestic and cool.

I Love my Cat.

I put down my hat and sit on the stool.

Where is he now, this once rat hunting tool?

Hope he's zipping and zooting under the table and avoiding the pool.

I Lost my Cat.

I don't want to end this note like that.

I Love my Cat.

Hi, I enjoyed the immature voice of this poem, and it reflects a distinct love for animals, which is something I could always get behind. I've had a cat since I was eleven (he's quite old now), and yes, I do see where you're coming from regarding cats. The rhyme scheme is consistent, and has a way of reflecting the underlying innocence in the attitude of the narrator. I enjoyed this.

Hello, thanks for taking the time to give feedback, always appreciated!

Yes, fur around the house is a small price to pay for unconditional love
