I like that it sticks to a metaphor - some poems are like a bag of metaphors and I find it more rewarding to develop one.

Usually, I'd say that if a word or a line isn't essential to cut it. I thought about saying that in regards to "My toes in the sand", but by the time I'd read it a few times I decided that I really enjoyed all the imagery.

"Heaven waiting on your lips" is maybe a little cliche. But I like that it ends without union but rather a transition from chasing to following. It's not a cliche poem - it's nuanced.

The lightly religious tone was indeed intentional. I wanted to convey the feeling that the subject was being worshipped by the speaker.

That was a very well thought out response. Thank you!

I could really feel that you were trying to portray someone who is longing for something. I found it intriguing that your poem feels very religious. Specifically, the metaphors feel reminiscent of an Old Testament prayer. I don't know if this was intentional, but the poem carries a passionate mood as a result. The last line, "Will you follow me?" though, seems like a line straight from Jesus.

I think it would have been nice if the subject's form was a little less ambiguous. Maybe a description of the subject would have been nice. Unless the ambiguity was done on purpose so that more readers can relate.

Good job tho

Love the commitment to the beach theme. I like this.

I like this! Simple and sweet. Were all following something earthly. We each have are own personal boundaries. In a philosophical sense. Theres always a new end of the earth waiting on us. A the sea. In a philosphical sense is the end of the earth! its not home to anyone.

I like the atmosphere your create. Almost feels like i’m reading a cosmic horror. Whether that’s your intention or not, it works!

I really love the continued use of metaphor! It's all so playful and follows theme really well whole painting beautiful picture and a feeling of wistfulnes of being stuck in place and the quiet temptation of possibilities visible, but yet still out of reach.

My only hangup is that the first line feels a bit out of place to me.

The logical part if my brain that keeps telling me that it wouldn't even take require full year to walk from one coast of the Unites States to the opposite shore.

If the ocean is your barrier, it feels a bit bleak to just stand there. I hope he/she someday discovers a talent for shipbuilding :). The seas are rough, but so is regret.

i love the language used in this poem. it’s simple and not unnecessarily convoluted, but still manages to evoke a deep sentiment of search, longing and the will one feels in the name of love. as someone else already mentioned, i like how there’s an evolution from chasing someone to following them, as if now the speaker and their lover are at the same pace, the same wavelength of love. good job!!

The title seems like an answer to the last line of the poem. That's really cool!

Hello readers, welcome to OCpoetry. This subreddit is a writing workshop community -- a place where poets of all skill levels can share, enjoy, and talk about each other's poetry. Every person who's shared, including the OP above, has given some feedback (those are the links in the post) and hopes to receive some in return (from you, the readers).

I love the imagery here that can be both a metaphor for chasing after a seemingly unreachable love that is at the point of being captured, embraced, requited. But I also see it in a very different light as the pursuit of wanderlust, the thirst to see what is just beyond the unreachable horizon, a seafarer's love affair with communing with the ocean, following if faithfully from shore to shore. I know it is just likely intended as an extended metaphor for one in love longing for and pursuing the object of her/his affection. But I still see it both ways and love the duality the poem conveys for me. Really well done.
