Are you sure there’s one in there?

Rant

Just shut up. Seriously. I’m huge and I still have two months to go, I don’t have clothes that fit, it’s hot as hell, I’m tired and I know I’m huge. So please just stop. It’s not ok to tell a pregnant woman how big or small she looks. Ever. Okay thanks.

I like to say "nope, just fat but thanks 🙂" and love seeing their reaction lol

I almost did it today. Almost.

Rando2878•

I'm not showing yet (23 wks) and love when people go "now that you say it I see it" and I just repond "I've actually lost weight, so all you see is fat" 😂

I did this at my nail appt when the tech commented on how big I was. It was hilarious watching her try to recover from it.

LissR89•

I seriously wish I'd done this. So many comments.. Lol. Didn't help my bump consistently measured 3 weeks ahead.

Great response!

People keep telling me how small I look because I'm pregnant with twins 24wks. I am a bigger girl to begin with but I have a noticable bump and don't fit any of my clothes anymore. I keep hearing "I expected you to be so much bigger!" Like how big do you want me to be?! They expect me to look 2 years pregnant already or something! I'm sorry that people think they have the right to comment on your body! Our bumps are often determined by babies positioning and such too. They are all beautiful and just the right size for our babies!

In the SAME EXACT BOAT. it’s no one’s business what our bellies look like and everyone’s body is so different and deserves to be treated with respect and adoration for the amazing task of growing a human or two regardless

Badatmath212•

I’m on the other end of the spectrum where I think I have a bump and people tell me I don’t. Makes me feel terrible. Let’s just stop commenting on womens bodies both pregnant and not pregnant.

29
pixelatedbagelOP•

Agreed!

5
ThePr0crastinat0r1•

Same! I’m 22 weeks and people keep saying how small I am, it’s my first so I was genuinely a bit concerned that there could be an issue and the baby was too small! I had to do some quick googling to see other bumps at that stage and no surprise, mine was completely normal as everyone is different!

3
_jer97_-•

Mmm yeah i mentioned i was pregnant and they were like “where?!” I’m sure they meant no harm but i was like 🙂

2
ashhir23•

Omg this happened with my first pregnancy!! I was so upset when my co worker who I barely knew asked.

I had a friend who got so upset and fed up that eventually, When people would approach her at the store with "how far along or", "twins?" She would look them dead in the eyes and say "uhm I'm not pregnant" then walk away.

15
pixelatedbagelOP•

I WAS SO TEMPTED! Omg I was so tempted. I’ve got two months to go so no doubt some one will do it to me again and I’m praying I have to ovaries to just say it and walk away.

Ok-Dependent606•

Bro yes. I’m 10 weeks today and beyond bloated. I’m still in the process of announcing it to people and when they see me it’s always “you sure you got the right due date?” Like bro. Shut up. Everybody is different idfk why they always feel the need to say something about it

15
daltonnotkeats•

Oh god, the bloat is so real 😭. I’m only 8 weeks and I broke down and bought maternity shorts this week so I’d have something to wear.

10
Ok-Dependent606•

I did the same thing! And I don’t regret it not one bit, especially coming to the end of the first trimester

5
daltonnotkeats•

Right? And like…..they’re so fucking comfortable. I don’t know that I’m interested in going back to clothes with zippers lol

4
Stravaig_in_Life•

I am roughly 6 weeks and look about three months pregnant because of the bloat! Prune juice is helping a little bit but my goodness it’s driving me crazy 😂😭

XlunalinaX•

Dude yes, my FIL said this to me a few weeks ago and it annoyed tf out of me. You’d think it’s a pretty easy concept to just not comment on a pregnant woman’s weight…?!

9
pixelatedbagelOP•

Apparently not! I don’t mind nice comments like “wow you look great!” But anything regarding how big/small the bump is I think is just so rude.

6

Omg my FIL said this to me too I wanted to scream at him that he looked more pregnant than me😂😂😂

1

Gahhhh. Too many times. People say the weirdest shit around pregnant people.

7
pixelatedbagelOP•

Yes! And new moms. Like why? Where did you get the audacity

4

Two people have asked if I was having twins. I am on the thin side and I would say have a normal size belly for my size?? I am so beyond confused! Most people have told me they didn't notice I was pregnant but then people ask that? It has me feeling so self conscious. Some people should really just keep their thoughts to themselves 😒

4
Suga-san•

Just shows how delusional people are and proves that you shouldn't have to feel self conscious at all! Cherish the time you have with baby before giving birth and you won't even hear those weirdos talking bs.

1
leftyloots•

Every phone call my mom asked me how much weight I’ve gained. I haven’t actually gained any. Well maybe a couple lbs at this point since I haven’t weighed myself in about 10 days but I told her to please stop asking that because I’m now having instrusive thoughts when I step on the scale when I’m actually healthy and in a great place for baby. It’s so frustrating when there are soooo many other things you can talk to a pregnant person about that doesn’t involve size or weight. Ugh

Edit: spelling

[deleted]•

I was already bigger before getting pregnant, currently at 16w but around 11w my sister was already trying to feel movement. I just told her nothing was going on in there and it was all fat she was feeling. That seemed to do the trick 😂

4
sailorn0on•

Life hack: just tell the pregnant person in your life “You look great!” No need for sizing details!

4
Leo_and_Stitch•

Ugh yes people keep saying I'm carrying so well, they wouldn't think I am as far along as I am. Well I'm 34 weeks and miserably uncomfortable with rib and hip pain so I feel like I've got quite the load thanks.

The other day I told someone at my office that I’m pregnant. Her response: “I had heard that, but you’re still so skinny I thought something might have happened”

3
sailorn0on•

That’s a big YIKES

3
sabrosababe•

Just WOW 😳🤦🏼‍♀️

1
Cbsanderswrites•

I’m missing why this is rude? Am I obvious? So if people say our bellies are big, that’s bad? And if they say we’re still so small, that’s bad too? I don’t get it

-2
lavemdelleDue August/First Pregnancy•

The way the coworker phrased it, it almost seems like they’re implying they had a miscarriage

3
megpal426•

She was saying because I’m so small, she thought my baby had died.

2
Bloom2120•

I knew a girl at church that was tiny and I wondered if everything was okay but I kept those thoughts to myself and shut my mouth. I knew eventually I’d hear about it or she’d show up with a baby. Wasn’t my business to ask or comment. If I wasn’t close enough to her to know I wasn’t close enough to ask. More people need to learn how to do that.

2
megpal426•

Yes, yes, yes! Perfectly said. I’ve definitely had similar thoughts before, but I would never say them. At this point me and baby are perfectly healthy at 23 weeks, but I’ve had bigger bumps pre-pregnancy after eating a large burrito, lol. I’m sure people are thinking it, it just baffled me that someone said it out loud

2
Cbsanderswrites•

When she said I thought something must have happened it sounds like she didn’t want to bring up your pregnancy or congratulate you in case something had gone wrong. I just had a miscarriage. They’ve very common and this doesn’t sound wildly over the line to me. Sounds like she was explaining why she never said congrats before that moment

0
megpal426•

We can agree to disagree here. Even if that’s what she was thinking, it was inappropriate to say out loud.

3

I think it's just best for people not to comment on it! Yeah some people will feel horrible if they're told they look really big, maybe because they've gained weight and that's difficult for them mentally, and some people will feel insulted if you tell them they look small, because to them, their belly is huge and you saying it looks small is like basically telling them they always looked that way! Or they are proud of their bump and are pleased it's showing, or they're sensitive that their bump isn't showing yet, or whatever. There's just no point in commenting on it, because you never know how someone's feeling about their own body or dealing with the changes, and it's just generally uncomfortable for a lot of people to have others commenting on their body, whether pregnant or not.

1
Cbsanderswrites•

I guess from strangers or acquaintances, sure. But if my friends and family just ignore my bump I think I’d be weirded out.

0
saandes1563•

Did I write this last night and forget about it? This is too funny. I am going through exactly this and am this annoyed.

3
Limp2myLoom•

I'm really small because my uterus won't expand enough.

Some people tell me I'm small, but not to worry as bumps come in different sizes and baby will be okay.

But others...telling me I don't look pregnant or baby must be tiny. I end up feeling so guilty because my body won't do what it's supposed to do

3
ligaline•

the day i told my boss at 13 weeks she said “i thought so because you’ve started showing” uhhhh i’m just fat at this point but thanks

3
pixelatedbagelOP•

Wtf so rude

2
ligaline•

i swear some people have no filter

2
No_Leopard5715•

I’m 28 pregnant with twins and get the, “you sure there’s only two?!” I’m fucking huge everywhere, gained literally everywhere. My father in law always has something smart to say like, “wow I always think you can’t get bigger and it seems like every day you do!” Like no shit, the babies grow every day and so do I. Never mind the fact that I really don’t find it appropriate that my father in law is commenting on my body.

3
pixelatedbagelOP•

Ew your fil doesn’t need to make any comments

2
SammiShortCake•

I hate this so much. I'm 38+2 and I get WoW mUSt Be A tInY bAbY. What I want to tell them is around 32 weeks we were told our baby may have IUGR. As a first time mom, that scared the shit out of me. I cried for 4 weeks until the next ultrasound. So hearing that I was "too small" for those four weeks really compacted my fear. Luckily her percentile increased....she is just a small baby. People should not comment on a pregnant woman's body at all. Very distasteful and stressful

3
pixelatedbagelOP•

Agreed!!

2
mewwissa•

I have an idea, let’s just not comment on people’s weight or appearance PERIOD 🥲

2
basicmonkee•

I’m six months pregnant and people keep telling me my bump is huge. 😅

I’m just short. It looks bigger than it is. It DEFINITELY has room to grow a bit more, lol. I’m not even at the debilitating-back-pain-and-loss-of-balance point.

I’m also just wearing clothes that accentuate the belly because everything is tight on me, now.
