Landlord 100% okay with my friend moving in for a few months but not her boyfriend staying the night once a week.

Advice

(AL) Me and my wife live in a rental house and my wife’s good friend needs a place to stay for a few months while she looks for something more permanent. We talked to the landlord last week and she had no issues with it. Tonight my wife was talking to her and she (landlord) asked if her boyfriend would be coming over and my wife said yes but he wouldn’t be staying the night but once-ish a week. She immediately said not going to happen under any circumstances. It’s okay and I’m sure it can be arranged that he leave by a certain time but that seems like it isn’t something she can dictate. (She only doesn’t want him staying because she believes in no sex before marriage and doesn’t want to enable that.) Is this something worth bringing up or should I just let it be and have her not bring her boyfriend overnight?

Why does the landlord even need to know that the boyfriend would be staying over? People have people over plenty of times randomly staying over every so often and most landlords don't even know it's happening. In fact would she even have known that the friend was going stay if it hadn't been brought up? I just don't get why anything even needs to be said. We rent and our landlords have never known who was here or not. In fact my sister stayed with us for 6 months and they never knew. We feel it was none of their business and that was that. I say let the boyfriend visit and stay every so often and don't say anything to the landlord. He isn't moving in so it's none of her prudish, old fashioned business.

If the restriction on the boyfriend staying the night isn't in the lease then you don't need to ask her permission and she can't do anything about it however if you are month to month she could decide not to rent to you any longer next month or whenever your current lease ends.

My advice would be to move away from any landlord that wants to dictate YOUR morality but obviously you might not even have that option.

Your best bet would probably be to have the boyfriend come over but not stay the night abiding by the letter of the rule but ignoring the ignorant trash spirit of the rule. Who fucks who is absolutely NONE of her business and nobody should tell her a damn thing beyond he isn't staying the night.
