Advice for a child with Skeeter Syndrome?
I’ve done some research but all the advice is very vague and hard to do when you have kids(don’t go outside when mosquitoes are out, etc). My oldest has Skeeter Syndrome which means he’s allergic to mosquito bites. Before we found out he had Skeeter Syndrome we would end up taking him to the ER when he got bit by a mosquito because it would swell so extremely bad, be hot to the touch, and was quite alarming to see being I was a new mom. They’d diagnose him with cellulitis and put him on an antibiotic. Which isn’t plausible to be doing every single time he would get a mosquito bite so we really struggled for a while. Finally we found out what it was and I started using a lot more bug spray on him. I’d also monitor him and check for any bites. If he had a bite, I’d put a bandaid on it so he couldn’t scratch it since scratching makes it swell way worse. Then I’d give a dose of Benadryl. I was just wondering if anyone had any advice on what I can do to make summer less stressful with his Skeeter Syndrome in mind. Bug spray doesn’t help very much and I’ve tried countless brands and formulations. I can’t have him wear clothes that cover his arms and legs because it’s ridiculously hot here and he overhears easily just like I do. He has very sensitive skin like me and his father- idk if that piece of info is needed or not but I thought I’d include it. Thank you in advance! I’m just at a loss right now and don’t know how to make this easier on my oldest and less stressful for my husband and I. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

My oldest has bad reactions to mosquitoes too. We thought he had Lyme disease the first time he got bit. It had the ring around it and everything. The other day It looked like he had an extra elbow because a bite had swollen so much. I try and put some sort of Itch cream on each bite as soon as I can. Benadryl cream or preparation h. We also use zyrtec daily for his allergies. Maybe that helps a little too.
Thank you!! I’m sorry you and him have to go through that!
