The U.S. Senate on Thursday will hold a procedural vote to advance a domestic terrorism bill the House passed earlier this month to respond to a mass shooting in Buffalo, N.Y.
But opposition from Republicans is all but certain to doom the legislation.
The racist rampage by an 18-year-old on May 14 left 10 people dead in a predominantly Black neighborhood in Buffalo. The Democratic-held House responded days later with a measure that would specifically try to reduce racist violence.
“It’s not the guns!” Ok so then would you vote to fund more mental health infrastructure? “No” How about a bill that would try to address domestic terrorism? “Nope.”
It’s very telling that Senate Republicans self-identify with domestic terrorists.
Broken government. We're in for some very hard times.
We don't have to be
America in decline. It's not new, but the trajectory has definitely gotten steeper.
It is so hard to have hope these days.
You appear to be in Texas. We're very close to flipping Texas. Shouldn't that be a cause for hope?
I thought we were close to that, but the last cycle doesn't seem as promising. Plus, the Republicans have done so much to suppress votes by Democrats ... it is hard to hope.
What are you talking about?
Is the anything that the Republicans do support. Cause it seems to me they are just saying no because the Democrats are proposing it.
Democrats could propose a slate of Republican wishlist items, and Republicans would still justify opposing it, because Democrats could get credit for it instead of Republicans...
Sometimes they even push through legislation that they don't want, that the Democratic POTUS vetoed and they'll blame the POTUS for letting it pass anyway.
Exactly
Yep pretty sure they just want to block anything Biden tries to be productive about. I’m hoping that’s the case because the alternative is that they truly didn’t support those baby formula bills or the idea that we should protect ourselves from domestic terrorism. Oof.
Rs don't run on policy, they run against it.
Is the anything that the Republicans do support.
Less taxes
More guns
The end of the gun tax
Domestic terrorists vote GQP.
GOP -> pro domestic terrorism
We need a great walk out. Fuck the GOP.

Get fucking mad with me!!!
Why would republicans do anything to discourage their racist base?
Not all republicans are white supremacist but all white supremacist are republicans.
They even oppose a domestic terrorism bill?! Shit is fucking ridiculous

opposed by a base that supports the capitol and Politicos that encourage it SHOCKER
Of course the Republican Party will oppose a bill that punishes domestic terrorism. When you think about it, domestic terrorism is the basis of their brand.
They fought for the right of people on the terrorism watch list to be able to buy guns.
They value guns more highly than the lives of 2nd graders.
This is not a surprise.
