How do you call someone from the Americas?

As some of you may know in Spanish and Portuguese the original definition of America is still used. America refers to North America and South America together.

I would like to know how do you call something or someone from the Americas. Something from Europe you call it European. Something from Asia you call it Asian. In Spanish and Portuguese American refers to something or someone from the Americas. Is there such a demonym in English?
