The Demon, a poem

Surgical menopause

The demon visits me in my sleep.
He visits me every night because, he says,
I am his favorite.
He burns the souls of my feet.
He fills my stomach with acid.
He heats my body until I am covered with sweat.
He tells me my life is for nothing.
He tells me I will die and turn to ash.
Still, it’s nice to be somebody’s favorite.
