I am a woman

You tell me I don't belong here

That this is not my place

My place is beside you

You clarify it is behind you

Never ahead of you

You tell me my blood is dirty

That what can bring life

Cages me to stay

Forever the way I am

But you forget

The times have changed

I can't just sit and eat with you

But equally compete with you

You laugh

'Let's see how far you'll go', you say

For every women's wings have been clipped for ages

To the point that responsibilities aren't same, blame isn't same, burden isn't same

You aren't wrong

I've seen so many of my sisters suffer

Cry tears of blood at night

But keep going with sunlight

You try to break our backs

Make us our own enemies

Try to control our bodies

But you'll never be able to control our spirit

For the fight is huge

And we have a long way to go

I am a woman

And I refuse to give up
