Feeling resentful of my husband today on my brothers wedding day

My husband and I have been together over 10 years. We have a toddler and I’m 7 months pregnant with our second child. I bend over backwards for him and our family especially since I gave up my full time job to raise our family, care for our home and work from home. (I run two very small businesses out of our house that provide a small income). I take care of everything, yard work, vacuuming, cooking, cleaning, organizing, home improvement projects (we have a lot as we prepare for the new baby) take care of our three cats, watch my toddler all day every day, I fold his laundry and put it away for him, hang up his work shirts, buy food he likes when I’m out grocery shopping, cook food he likes, help him foster a healthy relationship with our son (our son prefers me since I’m home with him all the time and my husband has struggled with this), I support his hobbies which are a huge inconvenience to me (he is into buying collectibles for resale but I end up being the one who has to re-sell and do all the work or we just end up with a hoard, he plays dnd 3x a week and he doesn’t help with our son or chores on those days and likes to stream 1-2x per week with his friends and also doesn’t help me on those days). I ask for so little in return. I hardly ask him to do any chores beyond dishes, flipping the laundry, or picking up my sons playroom occasionally. I ask him to pick up after himself but he hardly does. He hasn’t lifted a finger to help me get ready for the new baby. I bought him a book about being a birth partner for unmedicated birth and asked him to read it and he hasn’t touched it. He doesn’t give me any money to spend on stuff I want (which is basically just stuff for our house) and yet magic cards/ deck boxes and other toys are always showing up at the house. I only have the money I make from the businesses I manage and it only enough to get groceries and small things to move along the home improvement projects I’ve been tirelessly working on. This weekend, my brother AND my best friend are getting married. Two separate weddings on a Saturday and Sunday. I’m 7 months pregnant and exhausted. I have worked tirelessly to attend all events related to these wedding s and come up with the thousands of dollars needed for dresses, hair, make up, nails, gifts, the works. My husband wakes me up last Thursday to tell me he has covid. I know this part isn’t his fault but the end result is that I’m going to my brothers wedding alone and I won’t be able to attend my best friends wedding at all plus I had to arrange other plans for my son AND take care of my very sick husband. Like I get it. The covid isn’t his fault but the resentment from all the other times he’s let me down is flooding in and I just feel angry. I’m tired of feeling like I have a burdensome room mate who doesn’t care enough.

Edit: I forgot to mention that another reason why I’m so upset it that it seems like he doesn’t even care that he’s missing the wedding. I asked him today if he was feeling up to showing up to the ceremony and one family pic and he said “as of right now, no” and I just said “okay” and he said absolutely nothing else. All day. Like he is probably sleeping but I feel like he could have said something. Like that he was sorry he was missing it or that he felt it was the right thing to do to stay home or like literally anything. He just appears not to care at all and I’ve been nothing but helpful to him while he’s feeling so awful on a weekend that supposed to be really special for my family.

No wonder you're angry and probably completely exhausted. It's way past time for the two of you to sit down and work out a more equitable situation, in every sense.

I agree I just don’t know where to go from here because I have worked really hard to better myself as a partner as I haven’t always been the best (borderline personality disorder) but he hasn’t and refuses when I ask for couples counseling.

Girl... Put your foot down and get marriage counseling. I'd drop that ultimatum, get the fuck off your ass or I'm leaving.

I feel it doesn’t hold as much weight as it should in his mind because I’ve said it before and he will do better for like two weeks and then go back to normal. I don’t know what I can say that will get through to him.

Nothing. You hold up the ultimatum and you leave.

Threats only work if they are backed by action. You can’t threaten to leave unless you’re actually willing to leave, or this happens. The other person finds out that you’re just talking, and they feel free to ignore you.

You’re right. I don’t know if I have the strength to break up my family…

You sound like you’re really suffering and having a hard time right now and I’m sorry for the lack of support that you have from your husband. You definitely deserve better, and money for home improvements and stuff for your new baby should come from his income if he’s the main breadwinner. I get maybe paying for groceries with your money but otherwise it certainly shouldn’t have to be used for those things.

What is your communication like with him? Do you feel comfortable talking about your needs and how you need more help? Do you guys have a plan for when your baby comes, as in do you believe he’ll step up, take care of your other child, the house etc as you recover with a newborn?

If talking about it gets nowhere, maybe couples therapy? Q

That’s the thing. He’s an amazing dad. He does anything I ask for with our son and he was always super helpful and present and anytime he wasn’t he stepped up. He’s not a bad person, and I’m not afraid to voice my feelings to him in a constructive way. When I do talk to him about these feelings he doesn’t really have much to say in response. It’s like he feels bad but then doesn’t change unless it has to do with being a better parent. I have asked him for couples therapy and he won’t do it.

Time for you to take some actual control of the situation.
