My Daughter's Prayer Book
“(6:00 a.m., 1:35 p.m., 5:30 p.m., 7:52 p.m., 9.15 p.m.) these are the prayer times depending on the day according to Islam. Also more insight in Islam there is a very strict ruling on relationships and how a man should always distance himself from a woman. With this poem I would like to show a young muslim girl’s prayer book and what love meant to her. ”
6:00 a.m.
Eating you. I imagined this must had been what death had felt like
our lips creating oceans
beyond god’s eyes
or maybe it was dawn. The sun fell
out your mouth. Hopeful downpour-
for maybe the tongue is a sky too.
1:35 p.m.
I remember the way his hands felt. English oak,
brushing along my shore.
There was something holy,
about the way his fingers would tremble.
Night unreeling along my flesh like spilled
ink pressing against snow
5:30 p.m.
Love follows those who are willing to touch the water’s feet - Grandma
My Grandma used to tell me,
God had cut love out of our mouths like
a blade
as it washes over a young girl’s scalp.
Impossible.
If God had cut love out of our mouths
then why did his words taste so
sweet. Twilight foaming in every syllable
I wonder how many moons died in our sunset?
He told me that
obsession, had a beautiful way
of getting him off
I told him I love him.
O how easy it is
for honey to appear in the presence of milk.
7:52 p.m.
Discovery:
It is said that 60 percent of water makes up the human body.
If so then mine must be made of sin.
Forgive me father,
For I am a scar left open
to the night’s hunger. In our family we lie on our knees,
to show devotion.
His zipper a product of divine intervention
my teeth like gravel as it slides along tracks in a train's departure.
Or was it God
bringing me down.
What is the difference between love and devotion?
Forgive me father.
9:15 p.m.
All throughout daylight his tears were
bombs and my heart the
destination. Forgive me father,
For all I ever wanted was to be was
a cloud
prisoned by
light
that’s all I ever wanted to be
I swear.
