Review:
This book is honestly more of the same as the first one, but somehow lacking more substance and feeling more hollow. The entire book is just M/C and Sam thinking having sex is a solution to all their relationship problems. Like, they literally cannot stop banging for one second to address their issues. It honestly feels more like they’re just using each other as sex toys rather than a full-fledged romantic relationship. Where’s the romance, huh? I thought Jordan’s character was such nasty bait on the part of the writers. Like, sure, introduce this incredibly attractive person that in any other book would be an alternate LI, then limit them to one partial sex scene and then nothing else. My M/C making so many comments about how she regretted the Jordan thing was so weird, because I didn’t regret it one bit. Mickey and Mason are about as annoying as Book 1, and they made Mason have a crush on a girl for no reason other than forced hetero shit ughhhh. The new characters introduced (aside from Jordan) are boring and cliche. Robin is such a dick in this book, but at the same time, I still really wish there was one sex scene or something with them, because the chemistry is palpable. Hell, I’d say M/C and Robin’s enemy tension is more charged than anything Sam and M/C ever had. Sofia is enjoyable in this book, especially because she is so disconnected from the romance drama stuff. The company competition is cliche and overused. I think the writers realized the first book struggled from a lack of plot outside the smut, so they attempted to remedy that here, but it really didn’t land well. The plot is just so contrived, and Sam is downright insufferable at times, and the game forces you to get back together with them whether you want to or not (I get that it’s single LI, but come on). And of course, the absolutely pointless genderlock makes me pissed too. Male Jordan’s very existence establishes that male nannies are a thing in this universe, and the fact that this is a single LI book would make it easier to have a male M/C available.
In all, this book is honestly a step down from the first one, and although Book 3's plot appears to be more promising with Addison's (that's Sam's ex-wife's name, right?) return, it may fail to overturn the boring smut rut this book fell into.
