I think 15 years is way too generous.

I completely agree with you there.

I'm currently saying either 2 or 6 years.

The US will lose its hegemony before pikmin 4 is released

ember2698•

Is there something I'm missing? Awfully specific.

President voting years.

19
ember2698•

Oh wow duh, thank you

cpt_tapir23•

Do not get your hopes up too high. I recently read a paper that pretty convincingly argued that the era of US hegemony is far from over. People tend to confuse social problems with economical and geopolitical issues.

Unfortunately the US still holds a frim grip on many strategic economic sectors and is still by far leading in High Tech patents. China on the over hand is facing its own crisis in the coming years and is still far away from overtaking the US.

26
zukord•

It has already, too many just haven't realized it yet.

"I had over 800 military bases all around the world!"

"Yeah and everyone hated your racist ass, grandma"

185
Risu9•

Boomers/some Gen X in 2022 trying to take away reproductive freedoms in the name of "returning to America's 'Christian heritage' and the "nuclear family" and establish Christian theocracy for the government.

Same boomers/some Gen X in 2032 years when China takes over after studying actual STEM instead of Scripture verses in their schools: "WHERE ARE YOU GOD? We fell away from you! Must be the women in PANTS! UGH!"

99
wickedmasshole•

Mean "Christians" will be the death of us all.

41
shame_on_m3•

You saying this reminded me of my dear country: Other day there was a leaked document from top tier Brazil's military generals, where they propose a 15 year government plan, and one of the most important thigs was to reform universities in a way that the people would no longer be "progressive commies" but "liberals economic wise, and conservatives culture wise, valuing the family and christian customs"

13
funkmasta8•

We all know that Christian men oppose women in pants because dresses are sexier. No use pretending that it’s religious

12
whatthehell567•

They claim that seeing the outline of a woman's buttcheeks in pants is immodest i.e. too much of a turn on. But I think it's because dresses make it harder to run away from their disgusting selves.

20
funkmasta8•

If they weren’t looking at the woman’s butt, they wouldn’t notice any lines

8
Falibard•

That stuff is hot tho. Ain’t no shame about booty

6
hoodjc•

It is so amazing and so terrifying that many Americans simply cannot understand that the status of the US as a major power is not indelible.

95
Blightwraith•

Reminds me of Russia in that way

22
hoodjc•

Probably reminds a lot of the former USSR of the same.

Hopefully we won't fall on the sword of our own ego.

11
OBrien•

We fell on that sword long ago and have spent decades refusing to pull it out or see a doctor

We're late in the process of bleeding out right now

40
lispenard1676•

Brilliant analogy.

9
hoodjc•

Strange how effectively our claws still seem to work.

edit: forgot "still"

1
tothepayne•

I mean it will but China isn’t going to be in much better shape. They’ve got their own problems going on. Not least of which is an aging population and looming population collapse.

86
GIRose•

They have their own problems, but they are capable of having plans longer than 4-7 years absolute maximum.

55

You're right. While the US was fighting two generational wars, China was busy buying cobalt.

26
GIRose•

I was thinking more about how in spite of Infrastructure being broadly bipartisan it never gets passed because then the other side might get credit and it doesn't make infinite money, while China was building their second great Wonder of the World in the form of the Three Gorges Dam.

32

Lol and when it does get passed china builds it and collects tolls.

6

Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries have serious potential to be a superior and safer battery compared to Li-Ion and use no cobalt or nickel.

7

That'll be a great alternative. China still is a major player in LFP batteries too.

3†
JonoLith•

And those 4-7 years are just banks giving out loans on the premise that "it'll make money." Fuck any other consequences of any sort, and fuck looking at any larger picture.

China can plan for the future. In the US plans change every few years with a another batch of politicians.

US hegemony is pretty much done now, what's left is marketing hype and it's swirling the bowl. A demented unipolar bully in a multipolar world, with a British poodle along for the ride. Full Spectrum Dominance empire & mindset is a thing of the past.

56
phedinhinleninpark•

Don't forget Canada tagging along

14
PocoAlmare•

you forgot the over the top military spending compared to everyonelse.

Hundreds of out of US bases because you need soldiers there threatening for people to submit to you and so on.

I wonder for how long US can sustain that money spent for the imperialistic army to control the globe.

Problem is China is 4-5times US pop and their economy isn't that far behind

14

I rather doubt if the Chinese 21st century will be as brutal, morally corrupt and violent as the US 20th Century was. The US has lead the entire planet down a blind capitalist alley, and it's gonna end in chaos.

34
bentnail420•

Agreed. They have so many things to criticize but they haven't invaded, bombed, or sanctioned any countries in the last 30 years and have still been able to rival the US. I agree with you that the next century will likely be much more peaceful. Such a low bar...

I wanna see that shit tho

11

I think it's happening now.

The impending market collapse in the US will ripple around the world, again, and countries are already moving away from dollars as Russia navigates sanctions and China expands trade.

I think we're within a few months to 2 years at most of losing economic hegemony, even if we don't realize it for another 5 years.

25
AdRare604•

Recently i went to an interview and i was saying how China was taking over as the next reserve currency and de facto empire, the interviewer who works in the government was inadvertedly shaking his head in a 'no' fashion. I had to switch to saying the data showed such but it might be BRICS or India and then moved the head in 'yes' fashion. Some say 7 years before the US reaches the current UK status. The moment the starts closing bases, it will be officially over.

25
shame_on_m3•

Really wish Brazil took the BRICS deal more seriously. Now we have Bolsonaro who talks shit about china and pays respect towards USA's flag, while china is our biggest commercial partner in exports.

13
wuhan-virology-lab•

the data is showing that China's population is shrinking.

5
AdRare604•

Indeed. Unfortunately i only took the emerging economic data into consideration and not demographics.

I'm not optimistic, but I remember how we used to emerge better from this or that threat and catch myself saying the system works but it's real real slow. I'm not so sure now. One wave of disaster after another. I have my passport ready. People sometimes just need to move away from Fascism.

11
WhiteWingedDove-•

Lol I don't think you'll be able to passport your way out of this one. The fall will be real ugly.

14
Brave-Address5563•

i think it already lost it we just havent noticed yet

10
M3P4me•

It's already over. The US refuses to see the serious flaws in the Constitution that defines it and thus is unable to address any of them.

The errors and dysfunction have been steadily accumulating over time and are now overwhelming the few corrective institutions remaining.

Even worse, a virulent form of blind faith religion has essentially made the Republican party functionally inzayne by wrapping it in a delusional framework of lies that are accelerating the failure of the country. Example: Trump is a lying, narcissistic fraudster and they somehow see him as their savior. Fox News spreads the lies and pumps Russian misinformation into the minds of American conservatives.

There are few rational outposts left. It's only inertia holding back complete collapse at this point.

The rest of the democratic world has been trying to tell Americans this for 40 years. The deafness they encounter is symptomatic of the real problem.

America can't do reality any more.

The Chinese working class fought for equality and the eradication of poverty, then won, then set up a people's state, then developed the country's infrastructure and economy, eradicated poverty, and now we should support the Chinese working class in their battle to... what exactly?

What should China do? Adopt central planning for 1.3 billion people? I mean, the thing with planning is it's only good if the plan is really good, and that's really hard. Or split into decentralized autonomous communes who independently do whatever they want, if they can even reach an internal consensus? Have fun with contact lenses costing the price of a car.

6
Tenchiboy•

What city/country is next in line to take over that doesn't already have mounting issues themselves?

India? China?

That the world is changing is no secret. What it will change into is speculation. One idea is that the US will fall but continue to play a dominant role in a polycentric world.

If there is a collapse, what is the cause? Uprisings? State succession? Financial collapse? A fast global economic transition the US can't contend with?

I think we often see the US against the world, but don't forget India and China have recently shed blood at their borders. Russia and China have their own contentions. NATO has proven they're more than a defensive pact in Kosovo (has everyone forgotten that?).

Just some ramblings and ideas.
