Plasters

Poem

Exposed cuts heal faster than using a plaster,

a bit of fresh air does them good.

But I cover mine up in the presence of others,

I've always just felt that I should.

.....

Different disguises for any occasion,

I've come to hide injuries well.

I know in my heart it's a short-term fix,

but as long as nobody can tell.

.....

We all have our share of cuts and bruises,

no-one is left untouched.

So why does it feel like revealing my own

would warrant disdain and disgust?

.....

A small price to pay for the skin that were given,

some scratches and bruises and burns.

And if we just slightly adjusted our vision,

a mosaic of lessons we've learned.

.....

The comfort of others should not cost one's healing,

those wounds are not ugly or shameful.

But I've become used to dressing mine up,

and peeling off plasters is painful.
