Boeings F/A-18 Block III Super Hornets aren't stupid, they just have aphasia.

What's a Link-16?
It's how aircraft exchange information (locations, radar, ew status, etc).
I'm pretty sure the F-35 also uses it, so I'm not sure I get the meme tbh.
I believe the F-35 uses link 16 as well as some newer datalink better suited to the amount of data the plane generates. I don't understand this meme either
It only speaks the old speak. The new stuff mostly speaks the new speak because it allows better information exchange. Old stuff is using the fallback technology as primary technology. This forces stuff to use an older system as well as the new one. This creates potential for complications, such as the old-speaking planes maybe not being able to communicate with stuff in the area as well as it needs to, leading to sub-optimal performance and possible mishaps.
Yeah, they really hype the TTNT system of the plane, which works great within that eco system. But, when it comes to exchanging data with stealth aircraft, its still limited to link-16. It feels telling of how they intend to use these aircraft in combination with stealth aircraft. The use cases are partitioned enough.
Edit: link 16 is all that I have found published for interconnects. As a SW guy, the TTNT and MADL are databases communicated using different languages, nothing stops you from syncing lots of data between them, except maybe having the money to issue the contract
Laughs in classified MADL display.
edit: my source is I made it the fuck up (but seriously, whats on the displays)
u madl, bro?
madl
ah, now I get the meme
turns out it wasn't very funny
I have no idea wtf you mean OP
Older communication datalink for international connectivity with other countries air forces. F-35 also has the Link-16, but as supplementary rather than as main communication system. Link-16 doesn't support high enough data transfer to properly communicate the amount of data generated by last-gen jets.
In effect, it's making two top of the line jets talk to each other through cups with string between them
Source: I have no fucking clue and made it all up
Oh. I get it now. Thanks. Fuck me that's a deep shitpost. And I'm a plane nerd
That's how you know this is a good NCD post
may I am reta... have aphasia too.
There's a reason they're called Super Bugs.
People unironically call it the super bug outside of that one VSN mod?
I don't know, I saw it mentioned on another F/A-18 post in this sub.
What's VSN?
A DCS group.
Typically it’s called the Rhino irl.
JFC, I want to give you an award for blindly repeating NCD information across posts without knowing the context.
I accept it fully.
First I ever heard of it was back in 08 for a FSX mod.
Poor F/A-18, one of my favourite aircraft for how versatile it is.
There are ways around this issue
Twin engine
Option for a backseat
Problem ?
List of problems,
Point 4 also applies to the F-35C funnily enough
The F35s Engine is more powerful than the F18 Twins

You definitely don't undersrand why twin engines are relevant, and it's not for power but redudancy and survivability
Wow thanks genius, I totally didn’t know that
Whatever the F-35 is the superior Multirole fighter
So superior the US Navy is still keeping its Super Hornets

Finnish pilots complained a lot when our homedeveloped datalink was replaced with Link 16 in our F-18's.
They said it was so much worse than our old system.
To be honest he probably just wasn’t used to it, I mean I would. I’m in the blender community and I know quite a bit of people who refuse to update blender from 2.7 because it’s too big of a jump and they rather stay with a older, more outdated, and more sluggish system than learn something new.
No, critique concentrated it to be missing some features old system had and slower update speed and some incapabilities in regarding of adding and removing units from controllers during operation.
Link 16 is actually based on older design than what FAF was using called VIIRI DLEC which was especially designed to be used in Finnish ground control with Finnish Hornets.
Edit. Found Finnish military school publication about this, but it is protected with advanced encryption - it is written in Finnish.
How dare you to diss my beloved Link 16? It's one of the most Based™ tech in modern warfare. They enable different element of combined arms from different NATO countries to communicate with each other, and nothing is more Based™ than that.
