Session 1 for my Generic Fantasy Isekai

Just finished session one of my generic fantasy isekai campaign, "The Goddess of Fate Summoned Us To Another World To Be Her Champions, But She Won't Tell Us What To Do!" This is my first time as a GM, so I'm learning a lot of lessons.

Lesson 1: Remind everyone ahead of time about the session.

I forgot that not everyone is spending every waking hour thinking about this campaign like I am, so it took a little while to get everyone on Discord. But then we were good to go!

Lesson 2: You're going to learn new things, and that's ok.

I have been given a lot of help in this last week from the good folks at the Dyskami Discord. They know their stuff there. I learned more about how attributes work, which led to some revising of character sheets before we started.

Lesson 3: Things aren't going to go as you plan, even when they go as you plan, and that's ok.

The players met the goddess of fate, Bruni, and were given some abilities to help them in the new world. I had created classes (ten Character Point packs of abilities and items) for them, enough for them to take a choice. Two of them took the classes I expected. One took one of the two I expected her to take (though the less likely one). One took the animal tamer class, when I expected her to take the fire or lightning mage, but it makes sense for her character.

Lesson 4: Prepare lots of hints if you don't want to spell things out explicitly for them.

I let the animal tamer tame an animal (I call it a Spark Rabbit, which is like a jackalope with lightning coming out of its horns), which involved her singing to an animal before asking if it wanted to contract with her. The trouble was, I couldn't find a place in the story to tell her explicitly how to contract, I gave her hints on how she "felt" she should do it and like the animal was "expecting" something. It took longer than I expected, and I wish I had planned this out better.

Lesson 4: You may not have time for everything you want in a session, and that's ok. It's also ok to end when you run out of material for them.

We adjusted some character sheets, they made it to the world, and one got a new pet. They made some plans for the next time. We didn't make it to our first combat encounter, but that's fine. I want some more time to study up on that, and I need to create more creatures for them to fight.

All in all, it was shaky, but I think we all had fun, and we're all looking forward to next week.
