Let's create a list of all the loose ends, unanswered questions and unresolved subplots left dangling at the end of Gravity Rush. Heavy spoilers ahead, obviously.
Just as a disclaimer, I will not be using spoiler tags in this post because it would just end up being one large wall of black-out text. So if you haven't beaten the game and don't want to ruin the story for yourself, stop reading here.
With that out of the way, let's get started.
I think most of us agree that Gravity Rush is one of the most unique and interesting games available on the Vita right now -- personally, I found its charm and personality hard to resist, so I loved it. That said, even if you haven't played the game you've probably heard about its controversial ending. It has been described by some as "abrupt," "unsatisfying," and even "anti-climactic." There are many questions that just aren't answered at all, some of which are even brought up in the game's ending comic strip.
On the one hand, it leaves the door wide open for a sequel. On the other, it feels like we've been sold half a game.
Just off the top of my head, here are some things that are never fully explained:
-
The children of the Ark. What is the Ark, anyway, and why is it down there? Why are the children still sleeping when they are brought to the surface?
-
The dream aspects are never fully explained. Does the game take place in a dream universe? Who are the "Creators"?
-
Kat's memory loss. Apparently something terrible happened, which caused Kat to want to wash away her memoires in the sea of forgetfulness (or something, I can't remember the exact terminology). What happened?
-
"There was another way." The game begins with a quote along these lines. What does it mean?
-
The cities above and below Hekkesville, and time distortion. Who built the town that the Lost Children inhabited? Why does time pass so quickly down there compared to Hekkesville? There was also mention of a town above Hekkeville, the one which Kat apparently fell from, in which time passes slowly.
-
The evil mayor (I forget his name). He had something to do with Hekkesville being split apart, but how and why?
-
Being "awakened." One of the Lost Children had an "awakened" state that was never fully explained. Then Kat had something similar that allowed her to see the door on the Ark and the weak spots on the "invincible" Nevi. What's up with that?
I'm sure there are more, but this is all that immediately comes to mind. If I missed something, please do add it. Or if something on my list actually was explained or resolved, feel free to post the explanation. Also, any speculation or theories about what you think this game is really about are more than welcome.
Thanks for reading!
