Post Brazilian laser session giving me a rash?

So I’ve gotten laser hair removal on my Brazilian area 3 times now. The first two times I had no issues. The third time, there was a new nurse who they hired to do it and apparently the laser got serviced so it was stronger. My session was way more painful than the first two. Roughly a week later I started getting a rash/hives in between my crack and the areas of the butt closest to the crack and it was so itchy! Even the hole was itchy!

After a week or so of using a cocktail of anti itch creams from target, the rash went down. Now almost 6 weeks later the rash has returned in the same areas. It’s becoming so frustrating. This has never happened to me before. Anyone know what could be going on?

If it helps, I ended up going out to dinner with friends instead of staying inside post my 3rd laser session. I also shaved a week ago.

I've had 7 laser appointments so far (also Brazilian), and this happened to me after my 2nd or 3rd appointment.

I let the laser tech know during my next appointment, and she said that some people have a histamine response to laser. She suggested that next time, I take Claritin a day before the appointment, the day of the appointment, and the day after the appointment.

I actually didn't take anything, and I haven't had any issues since, but it sounds like exactly what I experienced, and Claritin would probably help.

With that said, I'm not a doctor, but that's what I was told. It'd probably be a good idea to call the place where you get lasered and see what they have to say, and if they have the same advice for you. If they're not helpful for whatever reason, you can just try the Claritin thing (at your discretion), or ask your doctor about it.

Yeah I called the place I got laser for the first episode I had and they said the same thing you’re saying about the histamine response but I’m just confused as to why it’s happening again weeks later out of nowhere? Thought I would see if anyone else has had the same thing happen because I’m pretty sure they’re just gonna tell me again that it’s a histamine reaction but I’m not too sure what’s triggering it this time :(

I had the same thing, but after first session. It’s a delayed allergic reaction. I have my second on coming up and I have to pre medicate with antihistamines and then I have a prescription steroid cream. Ice helps a lot l, but relief is very temporary.

Definitely going to follow your lead and use the antihistamines beforehand. I hope your next session goes better! The body can be so strange sometimes!

I am going to do Claritin every morning and Benadryl every night, starting 5 days before my next session. And will continue that for maybe a week- a week and 1/2 total. I’ll use the cream if needed, but hopefully the pills will help!

That sounds like a good plan!

I get this after every session and it’s the worst part about LHR for me. I’ve tried using topicals but they don’t really help - the only thing that’s helped me immensely is numbing the area with ice packs.

I haven’t tried using ice but I’ll probably give it a try tonight. Does it get rid of the texture of the hives too or just the itchiness?

It definitely eased the swelling for me. The downside is you can’t leave it on for a really long time, but you can do 15 minutes on, 30 minutes off, and ice the area again when the itch comes back.

Thanks! Definitely gonna give this a try!
