White Noise

Poem

The hum of voices echo through circular walls,

Like static on a tv screen, little sense to be made,

Words indistinguishable from the constant drone,

The constant, As though masked in fog,

Outstretched hands flail looking for any support,

Anything to grasp onto,

To comprehend the mist he’s trapped in,

To find his bearings and his place within it,

To find a way to clear the fog and silence the noise,

Hoping it will bring direction,

But this fog is eternal and he is not

This poem makes me think of depression and how you become trapped in indifference and apathy because you simply cannot find a way out. The "fog" just keeps coming and you're trying to make sense of it but the meaning seems to escape you each and every time. Thank you for sharing!

If like myself you live with ADHD, this really hits different. Thank you.

EDIT: I also came back to read the ending several times since it is very powerful.

I do suffer from ADHD and it was definitely an inspiration for it, I’m glad it relates to you

Gave me goosebumps. The ending is so very powerful. “But this for is eternal, and he is not.” Huge resonance. 👏🏻

I like it. I can relate to these feelings, but I like to think I’ve discovered that I’m eternal and the fog is not.

I get the feeling the poem is about our place in a world that most often than not, does not make any sense. A feeling of being lost, of confusion, a longing for meaning while unconsciously we know that there isn't any.

Outstretched hands flail looking for any support

incredible sentence, I could imagine this very clearly, the character lost in the fog frantically looking for something, anything

To find his bearings and his place within it,

To find a way to clear the fog and silence the noise,

it's nitpicking but I think the repetition of ''to find'' is redundant, maybe something else.

Other than that great poem!
