If I romance Liara in ME1 and intend to continue that romance in LotSB and ME3 without any issue I should technically have 'no romance' in ME2 right? [Spoilers are fine]

SpoilerMASS EFFECT 2

!I know I can romance Miranda and then break up with her or get her killed intentionally by not locking in.!< Morally / Ethically cheating on Liara with Miranda being a viable option aside I am just wondering if anyone knows what the actual game flags will be like and what issues one could face on a save-import to ME3.

Thanks!

My plan (if there isn't a better one) is LotSB>IFF>SM Lock in Liara early and just give everyone the cold-shoulder while my heart bleeds red for my blue space girlfriend.

IIRC you can still lean back into romancing Liara if you went with someone else in 2, it's just that Liara will yell at you a bit first.

The line she has for if you bang Thane is particularly harsh.

Nice. Thanks for the info. I guess side-related but: Is romancing Miranda the deciding factor on if she survives later or can she always or never be saved?

Miranda can live if you do her loyalty mission and don't give her any roles on the suicide mission that she's not suited for.

Understood now. Thank you for the information. Now I can get started on the rest of my playthrough.

You can also get Miranda killed in ME3 by breaking up with her, so be careful.

As someone who’s preferred romance is only available in 2 games, I usually just sit the other game out. Plus, if you’re romancing Liara, you get extra romance content. I’d personally just hold off in ME2

If you do romance Miranda and outright break up with her at the start of ME3, she'll die, so be careful. Saying you wanna continue the relationship but locking into someone else later on before meeting her for the 3rd time is fine though.

Just be careful about romancing Miranda in ME2. I don't want to spoil anything for you into ME3 but my one piece of advice would be this: if you're gonna cheat on Liara in ME2 and then go back to her in ME3, do it with anyone but Miranda.

CriticoolHitOP•

This has to do with choosing the wrong role for her in SM right?

This is a whole other can of worms I have to google as I hear there is a "Save everyone" route and I'd like to try that if possible.

Not the other poster, but romancing Miranda and then “cheating” on her in 3 impacts some events in 3. Better to do it with someone else in 2 if you cheat on liara at all

No offence but you seem to know a lot about the game and min-maxing on your first playthrough. I don't think reading ahead spoilers to 'win' the game is the best way to go on your first playthrough.

I played 2 to about 50% when it first came out but ran out of time IRL. Also the Liara centric DLC didn't exist yet. Also I hadn't played ME1 yet. So now having played 1, I know enough to know what landmines I'm trying to avoid just from having bumped into it enough in during the past decade heh. It doesn't spoil the game for me. What would spoil the game for me is getting all the way to ME3 with the goal of having my blue space girlfriend waiting for me only to get a slap in the face and Miranda is dead heh.

I wouldn't say I'm trying to "win"

Sure man, I made some horrible choices on my first playthrough and still remember them - part of the charm though.

I want the biggest space party!

Trying to save everyone and keep Liara whole way through clean.

I think if you lock your other romance before Miranda’s lock in scene (Apartment meeting) she’ll still live, to get around that issue in ME3. Every romance has a lock-in scene, and doing one, I think, makes the others treat Shepard as if locking in wasn’t an option to begin with. So you can just not break up with Miranda in her first scene, then lock Liara when her lock-in comes up, then meet Miranda consequence-free, if I recall the sequence correctly.

there arent really any big flags for cheating in the trilogy, at most you have a few dialogs about it, but doesnt really affect anything. if you are just loyal, dont cheat with anyone is the best option.

5
CriticoolHitOP•

Thanks! I think I'll stick with being fully loyal for my first run through.

You can still flirt (and hang out) with kelly no one will have an issue with her.

5
CriticoolHitOP•

Fair enough. And I want her to feed my fish. Would you happen to know 'the moment' where you have to stop flirting though so you don't accidently lock in a romance?

I'm just looking out for my fish

2
Dark_Nature•

With Kelly? There is no moment, the game doesn't really count her as a romance, more like an one night stand. There is nothing to lock in. Liara will not even mention kelly. It is like you were perfectly faithful. And to be honest, for everything we know it is just a dinner and some dancing...

zerosix1ne:tali:•

I vote for staying faithful. Do the right thing!

4
CriticoolHitOP•

Doing the right thing boss!

2
jfan666•

I would romance Kelly, doesn't flag as cheating, and she feeds your fish!

3
CriticoolHitOP•

How do you end the romance with Kelly (safely-ish) to resume Liara in 3?

1
jfan666•

Iirc it doesn't count as a romance so you don't have to do anything. You can romance Kelly, and someone else in the same playthrough too.

ParadoxArcher•

If it helps, you'll have a photo of your beloved space babe in your office for you to pine over.

CriticoolHitOP•

I think if I 'look at it fondly' at just the right time before SM then I've done everything right.

Elarris1:garrus:•

Can confirm: if your romance option in 2 dies during the SM Liara will not call you a cheater. Source: my “darkest timeline” playthrough

3
CriticoolHitOP•

In ME1 I started my romance with Ashley well before getting Liara. Then once I had more than confirmed she was kind of a bible thumping space racist I "let her go" on Virmire and secured things with Liara just in time.

I genuinely felt bad about this heh.

Llamasforall•

I was in the same boat, I couldn't bring myself to cheat on my blue-boo.

2
mrmgl•

You can also do the one time thing with Jack.

2
InigoMontoya757•

True, but that's a very bad idea (nothing to do with Liara).

2
EdwardRodrickStone:paragade:•

Miranda is one of the hardest squatmates to get killed during the final mission of the main story.

I definitely think you should not cheat on Liara nor break any romance option's heart, while I am not a fan of Miranda and Jack, to put it lightly, I still cannot condone it, and it is obviously not a right way. No achievement should ever make a playthrough worse, no achievement should ever make your avatar do things you otherwise would not do, this is how I see it.

ReluctantSlayer•

Correct. Your only “relationship” is a picture on your desk until ShadowBroker.
