after 600hrs mfer prolly has a pretty good grasps of its shortcomings as a game, what's controversial about that?
If you played a game for 3 hours everyday since it came out, what did you have to do with that time that was better? Dude literally got entertained for 10c an hour.
Being a good game has nothing to do with being overrated. A good game can be overrated or underrated
It still can be good but at the same time overrated. You understand that, do you?
“I don’t like this game.”
“SHUT THE FUCK UP YOU’VE BARELY PLAYED IT!”
“I beat it three times trying to convince myself that maybe I’m missing something. I wanted to enjoy this game but I still see it as bad.”
“IF YOU DIDNT LIKE THE GAME THEN WHY DID YOU PLAY IT?!”
Okay, even if we take your theory at face value, er is like 80 to 100 hours first run and gonna be shorter on ng+ or new character. What will you get from playthroughs 4,5,6 and 7 that you didn't get in the first 3?
Do you not get how much time 600 hours is?
Hating on new games is a trend I guess , I mean I had a blast with Cyberpunk when I bought it after a month of its launch even though I had been told initially that cyberpunk is a disgrace , I have around 340 hrs in Elden ring & I cant wait for the DLCs
Video games are fun , I like video games
Same, is one of my favorite game, Cp2077 and I get bored of all the thrash people throw at it, especially from the ones didn't even played it. I understand old Gen players, don't mistake me, waiting one year for being fully functional on that platforms its also bad, but the game is really good.
I think in a very meta way it’s this post that deserves to be anointed in r/Gamingcirclejerk. Just so I’m clear on your point, you believe that once you play a game past a certain amount of hours, you lose the right to appraise it critically?
My point is who the fuck plays a game that isn't bloody fantastic to that person for 600 hours? Like, why do that to yourself?
Overrated is not an absolute statement of quality, it is a statement of quality relative to the game's public reception. He can think it is an absolutely fantastic game and still think it is overrated.
Does that align with calling something 'overrated af'?
In Elden Ring's case, sure. Lots of the discourse around the game has been treating it as god's gift to man that cures cancer by dispensing blowjobs. You can go way down from that and still think it is a great game.
I genuinely don’t think you know many actual gamers if you haven’t encountered people that have put hundreds of hours into a game they don’t think is unequivocally fantastic.
Haha, Destiny 2
Lol Apex for me - pretty sure I say ‘I hate this game’ at least twice a day. 800 hours going strong
I don’t play it myself but have friends that have been ensnared in Destiny 2 for a long time, you have my sympathies
I don't know many gamers who have to treat games like they're an 8 year old who got it for Xmas and get nothing else until till their next birthday.
Look, the point you’re trying to make is that people wouldn’t play a game for an extended amount of hours that they didn’t think was perfect. I’m telling you that you are objectively wrong. There’s not much more to say really.
I mean, I played Modern Warfare 2019 for almost 1k hours and would consider it a 7.5/10, while games that I consider 9.5+/10 I played for much less than that. This guy has played ER long enough to recognise its various flaws and think that it's overrated (unless he's lying, which could also be the case)
I did all the sidequests but Melina still wouldn't have sex with me, 0/10.
Me beating the witcher 3 after 80 hours and telling my friends it's not that good
Me probably getting blacklisted in this sub for adoring cyberpunk & finding witcher 3 to be generic & uninteresting
Why is "unemployed" being used as if it's an insult?
Not specifically using it as an insult, more just trying to understand htf the dude had that much time to play one game. There's only so many hours in the day, and I hope the fella actually sleeps

I literally said I wasn't using unemployed in a pejorative way. But hey, work yourself into a froth over it.

In response to a video asking if "Stray might be Goty"
I don’t think Stray will be GOTY, but it’s definitely something new/unique and that will greatly increase its popularity
Look I hope it rocks. But who plays a game for 600 hours and says 'yeah that's overrated' lmao
No, it makes a ton of sense if you think about it. He isn't saying it's bad — that would be weird. He's saying it's overrated. Which means that he likes it — ofc he does, he played 600 hours of it — but he is also aware of what other people think of it and he's saying they are giving it too much credit.
Speaking purely for myself, If a game keeps me interested for the equivalent of a part time job for six months, and I don't do literally anything else instead, I'm either a masochist or really really enjoying the game.
Like this isn't specific to elden ring, but when your competition is literally doing anything else and you chose the game for six months, I don't know what else you expect from it?
The actual context is a discussion about the game of the year. If you choose to play literally nothing else for half that year...
Sounds like the average MMO experience to me
The game came out on February, we are at June and rounding things up, he played the game for 5 hours a day. Not an unemployed fatigue, more like a student or someone who don't really hang out so much... Standard in this hobby.
Precisely. Look how far simple maths goes when it comes to explaining simple things. Amazing.
You know how many times people bullied me on lol because I had 1k games in over one season (they were on alt accounts most of the time), wich is around 3 games per day?
I'd wager they have in at least third of your total matches the same season. My sincerest sympathies to you.
Probably 3 or 4k in totals with their multiple alts, judging how they ended up always at my same lo, but that's more the game fault not explaining ranked is not a grind
I'll attempt to defend this guy a little. I have 168 hours in Elden Ring, but if you were to ask me my opinion of it I'd say, at best, mixed. The first half of the game is undeniably fun, but I think this is because the game frontloads it's best content. The second half of the game is, to be blunt, not very enjoyable at all in my opinion.
The reason I accumulated so many hours is because I did two playthroughs. After a miserable experience beating the game the first time, I decided to try new game plus and see if I could respec my character a bit to enjoy the game more. It didn't work out - again, everything up until Morgott I enjoyed. Everything afterwards, not one bit.
I essentially sank so many hours into this game because I wanred to try and have the same amount of fun with it that everyone else seems to have. But eventually I realised there's no point in trying to enjoy a game - you'll either enjoy it or not.
Completely and totally fair commentary.
Would you need to put in four times as many hours to really lock in that opinion or are you comfortable finding something else to play at this point? ;)
Jesus Christ. He can still think it is a good game and enjoy it for 600 hours while also realising that it is overrated. It is not that hard to understand.
Since Elden ring has been a monstrous success expect a lot of people suddenly becoming a professional video game critique to point out its flaws
because if I am being honest , if someone is being this critical of a game then there is not a single critically acclaimed title that is not overrated , every single game is overrated , who cares what I or a random person who had 600 hrs in Elden ring thinks ?
100%. I'm trying to get a sense of what people's actual expectations are for a game. If it literally entertained you for the entirety of your spare time for half a year, that's a pretty amazing achievement.

Tbf elden ring is just straight up not a good game. It is at beat a 70-80 and not a 97 or whatever it has on metacritic
Witcher 3 is straight up a bad game as well or average at best , no where near deserves the accolades it recieved
Same can be said about any critically acclaimed game released in the last generation if you are trying disparage a game for the sake of it
You don't need to tell me. Witcher 3 is absolutely awful lol
To be fair, you can like a game and still think it's overrated. If that's what this guy means then he's communicating it very poorly, but it is a valid stance to take.
