People up in this thread throwing shade on whether or he committed "insurrection" while ignoring that he blatantly committed SEDITIOUS CONSPIRACY against the US government.

"If two or more persons in any State or Territory, or in any place subject to the jurisdiction of the United States, conspire to overthrow, put down, or to destroy by force the Government of the United States, or to levy war against them, or to oppose by force the authority thereof, or by force to prevent, hinder, or delay the execution of any law of the United States, or by force to seize, take, or possess any property of the United States contrary to the authority thereof, they shall each be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than twenty years, or both."

Heres a great breakdown of the crimes for anyone that gives a shit about democracy.

Wow, I didn't realize this would rile up people. I thought it was interesting that in the article that not many people are paying attention, but most want to charge Trump.

It's weird that by not watching they still want Trump charged. I'm curious why that is.

9
RumForAll•

Probably because they correctly realize that this is a larger part of the modern GOP not being compatible with democracy. Or as long time Republican David Frum pointed out a few years ago:

“If conservatives become convinced that they cannot win democratically, they will not abandon conservatism. They will reject democracy.”

Yeah, that poll probably drops to 0 when you actually spell out what legal charges should be brought forth.

2†
Icy-Photograph6108•

Well most people want criminals to be charged if they did it, regardless of if there is enough evidence to bring a conviction

2†
bamboo_of_pandas•

They probably see a trial as a more focused way of determining if something criminal was done. Wanting someone charged and wanting someone convicted is two separate bars.

2
Flopsam•

This is how you know the USA is completely doomed. It should be 9/10 at the very least.

40% of Americans welcome the end of democracy in their country. You don't come back from that. It's guaranteed dictatorship coming.

8
RandomGrasspass•

Nothing is guaranteed. It would be best if Trumps diet just kind of kills him but who knows who the next one is.

It amazes me the irony of the die hard Trumpers who think they love their country yet support someone willing to destroy it

2
Flopsam•

I think DeSantis is going to be the dictator that leads the USA to hell, not Trump.

1
HandsomeJack19•

I came into this expecting it to lead to charges being presented against Trump, but the commission has already said they won't be doing that. It honestly makes me wonder what the point of it is. Hate to say it, but with no charges it really does seem like grandstanding.

7
Irishfafnir•

It is not the commissions job to indict Trump that would fall under DOJ. The committee's job is to investigate what happened, inform the American people, and present solutions to prevent another attempted coup.

9
HandsomeJack19•

Turning their findings over to the DOJ makes perfect sense, and hopefully will lead to charges being brought forward in a court of law. But, and again I hate to say it, just "informing" the American people without any official charges sounds 100% like grandstanding. Especially since they are presenting their evidence without giving Trump a chance to defend himself. And while solutions to preventing another coup sounds good on paper, I'm going to need to see them actually do that before I give them credit, because as of yet that hasn't been a part of their presentation.

-3
Irishfafnir•

Again the committee can not indict Trump

4
[deleted]•

I think it is a distraction. There's been an attempt on a Supreme Court justice's life and the media is now like, "Hey! Look at this thing Trump did two years ago!"

3

Charges usually require evidence, not public polling. That nexus has not been made what so ever.

6†
SpaceLaserPilot•

So, you have ignored the 1/6 hearings thus far. Feel free to tune in and learn. The full scope and scale of trump's failed coup attempt is being described in vivid detail by Republicans. It's some truly remarkable stuff.

1†
rethinkingat59•

There is really not exciting new stuff. Nothing. Could have been worthy but they laid an egg.

7
SpaceLaserPilot•

So, you too did not watch any of the hearings. Why not watch them for yourself instead of repeating what others have told you about them?

-6

You're still reaching under the false assumption because something you don't like happened, all bad things are connected. There has been nothing new or revelatory regarding the actual riot.

2†
twilightknock•

The attack on the capital was just part of the many attempts to overturn the will of the public. And yeah, those many efforts were connected. It's not like the people who attacked the capital were just there on a lark. Trump and his allies had incited them for months with lies about the election.

2†

The term incitement proves too much. There was just an assassination attempt on a sitting SC judge. Are the politicians who bloviated over his decisions to be held responsible for incitement as well? Don't bother answering, I know what it will be.

5†
cstar1996•

The Eastman memo exists. It describes illegal actions intended to overthrow the government. Trump attempted to implement the memo. That’s an attempted coup.

0†

Cool, still not connected to the riot.

2
carneylansford•

So remarkable that you’ll provide approximately zero detail about any potential charges…

0
ExternalUserError•

There's an abundance of evidence, but the real problem is that it'll be basically impossible to impanel a jury. Even if you did, any prosecutor who takes it up will be taking a huge career risk and getting death threats from millions of people, so it's hard to want to be the one to do it.

1
rethinkingat59•

The poll also finds only 9% say they are following it very closely. What the hell are the 9% getting out of it? There is no news there,

I am amazed and shocked on what the committee has focused on. One can only surmise this was a planned political action versus an investigation of any type. ( a failed political action)

They set out to prove Trump did nothing for 3 hours to stop the insurrectionist. That is 100% known public information, The entire country knew it on 1/6.

The committee only discovery is that 90% of the administration and Republicans with access were begging Trump to stop it, it actually made the GOP look far less crazy than before.

Why hasn’t the committee work been 90% about the conspiracy to submit falsified documents to the US government in the form of alternative electors? That is the only illegal activity they might possibly get Trump and his 5-6 cohorts managing “Project Greenbay” convicted on.

Intent to do something is a hard row to hoe, but being in any meetings with any discussion of the need to manufacture and submit fraudulent documents to the US government is real substance.

4†
SpaceLaserPilot•

So, you just demonstrated that you have not paid attention to the 1/6 hearings. Feel free to learn the full scope and scale of trump's failed coup attempt. The information is being displayed to the nation in vivid detail.

You can, if you prefer, continue to ignore the facts and keep retelling that old lie.

But, why not try reality? Jump in! The water is great.

7†
NMAsixsigma•

Trumps coup? What about actblue and BLM and their very very clear and apparent billions of dollars in destruction around the country. Statues being torn down. Businesses being raised to the ground. Tens of thousands of businesses burned to the ground where is the investigation into that? The orchestrators. January 6th was not an insurrection point blank period. It was a “mostly peaceful protest”

-6†

What about …. Is the weakest defense. It always comes out when there is concrete evidence and no defense. Just admit the insurrection and move on.

6†
NMAsixsigma•

What Hillary is going to jail for fabricating a 4 year long investigation into Russian collusion? After that stunt the democrats have lost all sense of credibility w the public. Nothing is going to come of January 6th except another partisan impeachment. Ask yourself this are you better off now under Biden than trump??? On average Americans are spending $600 more dollars a month because of inflation and gas prices. You talk about foot in mouth disorder. Maybe Biden should shut the hell up and stop dividing this country further and stop insulting our Allies that provide us w gas. “Greedy oil companies” it’s government policies that threatened the oil companies. He picked the fight and the American people are paying for it

-9

No, no. You see, that was (d)ifferent. It's okay when the left does it. Don't question the narrative.

2
outofspacetraveler•

What I don’t get is... people are allowed to congregate and protest. We know that feds and or someone on the inside opened the high security doors. Some were bad actors, and many just walked right in through open doors.

I ask you... how is this an insurrection? Insurrection means overthrowing government, this wasn’t a case where a mob would be able to achieve insurrection. There’s no organization. No one imprisoned were given speedy trials, and none so far were convicted of insurrection but only of trespassing. Media continues to repeat the word insurrection, but I’m not convinced it was actually an insurrection.

There was times in history that were more of an insurrection. For example the black panthers invading the capita with guns, that is an insurrection. Bombings have happened. These type of things are insurrection.

Protestors storming a capital for election fraud, which by now we have people convicted of doing election fraud, were right to be mad, assemble, and protest. And if the doors open, I think they have the right to enter a building maintained by their tax dollars. Nowhere was there organization to actually perform insurrection.

Now if I’m provided evidence of the likes that there was organization to insurrection, then I’m open to changing my opinion. But the hearings haven’t proven any such organization.

anti_ff7r•

The plan was to have Pence throw out electoral votes for Biden and count alternate electors for Trump under the threat of a lynch mob.

11
outofspacetraveler•

Sounds like a good theory. But only a theory. Lynch mob? That’s mainstream media propaganda for you.

-3†

What do you call the mob of people inside the Capitol building? You think those guys weren’t gonna kill someone if they saw them?

1

None had a gun as far as I heard. Kill!? To assume that motive is a stretch. Meanwhile majority of people outside the capital were protesting peacefully. Where is the organization for insurrection?

1
ThePenisBetweenUs•

There was no threat of lynch mob to pence because trump thought pence was already on his side

-3
anti_ff7r•

The lynch mob didn’t know that

2
ihatechoosingnames•

Not true. Trump tweeted about Pence’s disloyalty multiple times, even in the middle of the riot as people were breaking into the Capitol.

There’s always radical minorities in a crowd. What did the majority do? Peacefully protest. Was the wall climber and zip tie guy going to overthrow the government? Try again.

0
Alarmed_Restaurant•

All they did was break into a federal building during a procedure to transfer power from one political party to the other based on the outcome of a recent democratic election in the hopes they could ensure whoever they personally felt should be the leader of the federal government, including the armed forces, would remain in power.

But hey, since most of the other people they were with understand the difference between protest and riot, I guess we just give everyone a free pass and assume that all elections going forward will be fine.

1
outofspacetraveler•

So a few broke windows. But someone opened the high security doors, they weren’t broken into but rather they were let in. Some got way too excited, some were killed in the fray, this is normal in what started as a protest and devolved as degenerates moved in. Remember, there’s still the matter of determining the role of the feds, as there’s evidence of something. Thing is, most people were very peaceful, maybe 95-99% of the people that showed up. More people were peaceful as compared to BLM riots. Neighborhoods weren’t burned down.

My main thing is, there was no organization that would be remotely close to an “insurrection” attempt.

1

The easy answer is: it wasn't an insurrection. It was as some jack wagons who bumble in after being let in.

1†
outofspacetraveler•

That’s what I’m trying to say.

0†
ThePenisBetweenUs•

I agree with this post. Well put. This was no insurrection. Frankly, it seems like the Dems had behind the scenes plans before it started to make sure this got messy as to make trump look bad.

They’ll never charge him. They want to run against him in 2024 hoping J6 will be enough to win on. Personally, I think there is enough evidence to bring charges. That would solve a lot of problems for Republicans.
