Can I get a little help on my outline for a research essay?
I am writing a 10 page research paper in spanish for my spanish 302 class, and I need help making sure I have enough content to flesh out my writing for that long. The essay is about CICIG (A UN organization that fights impunity in Guatemala's judicial system by holding trials on more sensitive allegations. It is a hybrid organization that has both Guatemalans working in it as well as international assistants).
My thesis is that CICIG needs to be renewed [so that Guatemala can work towards becoming independent in a judiciary context].
And here is what I have in my outline so far:
***Intro to the Organization
-Purpose for being made:
=Guatemalan government asked for assistance from the UN pertaining to dealing with the immunity of criminal organizations, etc.
=The UN is using this as a model program to be utilized in other countries.
-Go into why, historically, the impunity exists:
=(Corruption in the sectors, lack of protections for those prosecuting, threats and bribery, lack of resources) and which are remedied by CICIG existing.
-Describe what CICIG is responsible for doing, and how long they have been in service as well as when/if they will be renewed.
-List who is involved in CICIG, what responsibilities they have, and show that it is a hybrid organization of both Guatemalans and UN counterparts working together.
- Describe how this accomplishes more of a feeling that Guatemalans are having more of the power in the prosecution of more sensitive cases, rather than an outside entity having all of the power and doing everything. -Make a statement on the necessity of the organization in a general sense and be able to back it. (Return to thesis. This is not an expository essay).
***Controversy
-Describe what happened with the lawyer who committed suicide and blamed the president and other officials for his death in a video. (Think descriptive essay when writing this).
=CICIG took over the case because there was major unrest from the incident.
=Despite appearing to be innocent, the president and government officials were obstructing CICIG from doing its work.
=Without CICIG, this drama could have throttled the country into a period of unrest and violence. (Argue the necessity considering the possibility of future controversy and the consequences of the country not being able to handle such sensitive trials through the judicial process.
***Cases that CICIG have handled -Go over all the details and show why the cases would not have been handled properly in the normal judicial system of Guatemala.
What other general areas should I cover?
