While I was fishing today...
... enjoying some alone time, I could hear a man up the trail yelling fairly loud, at someone else. As he got closer I began to hear what it was he was yelling, something along the lines of "you are not a true Christian!" and "your actions are bringing you closer to Satan daily!"
Shocked I turned around as he rounded the corner and a young boy, probably about 13 or 14, that was clearly mentally handicapped had his face in his hands. I could hear what seemed to be his father screaming at him for being selfish and that God was going to punish him and that Jesus did not love him as he loved everyone else. I never did find out what he did wrong, as they passed me I yelled up to the man to take it easy... to which he scoffed and grabbed his son and yanked him down the trail. I didn't know what to do..
This isn't a question, or even a statement, just more of a story to precursor my thank you to r/atheism because at one point in my life I was judging (perhaps not as extreme) but nonetheless judging other individuals based on their level of Christian faith and morality, rather than by respecting who they were as individuals.
So thanks everyone, this forum has been the most helpful tool in my progress towards rational thought and behavior, I couldn't have done it without you.
