Received proofreader job at R.R. Donnelley! ...Without any interview. Any advice on what to expect?
This Friday I received a four-month contract job offer from R.R. Donnelley through a staffing company I'm registered with. I'm a recent college graduate and I've been looking for work for months so I'm thrilled to finally get a job in my field.
However, I was very surprised to hear that they wanted me to start immediately without any kind of interview. (They originally wanted me to come in on noon of the day I found out, but they changed their minds and want me to start Monday.) It's a second shift position that may require me to work past midnight once my training is complete, so they may not have had many candidates for the position and need someone to start right away. My staffing company is reputable, so I'm not worried about anything shady.
My big concern is my lack of information on the position and the exact kind of work I'll be doing. Interviews are not only a chance to let employers find out about me, but for me to ask question about what their expectations are and what my duties would involve. I'm worried about going in blind.
Any advice about starting a new job with little idea of what to expect?
