Will a solar panel charge quicker at a place closer to the sun that a place further away?

I was watching Wall-E with my son and when Wall-E was flying close to the sun, he recharged his battery with his solar charger. It was instantly charged as soon as he opened it. It peaked my curiosity as to if this would really happen.
