If not ethics, and not health, then what?

Has anyone here stopping eating meat for reason OTHER THAN health or ethics?

Here's my story, it's kind of funny:

As a kid, I had a phobia of taxidermy - The kind of phobia that makes your knees buckle and your palms sweat - The way people get around snakes or spiders. A deer head on a wall would put me into hysterics. Around the time I was 12ish, a family member said to me, "Why does that deer head upset you so much, but the cow on your plate doesn't?"

Well, that's when it clicked. I was chewing something's FLESH. It was scary to me that someone would kill an animal just to make it look alive again, and all of a sudden, I understood that I was eating that animal's insides. I was HORRIFED.

My mum fought with me for about a year, around the age of 13 I stopped eating meat and never looked back. It had nothing to do with my health, and at the time, I didn't understand the way that animals were treated when they were raised for meat. I was just creeped out by chewing on flesh.

Now, 15 years later, I'm happy with the decision for a variety of reasons, INCLUDING health and ethics. But I'm wondering if anyone else has a strange story about how the stumbled into the world of veggie?
