VEPR AK caliber choice, your opinion please

I am going to be getting a VEPR AK and I am trying to decide between 7.62x54r or .308.

Some needed info: I don't need match grade accuracy, but if I do I own reloading gear. Although I have some reloading gear I prefer to purchase rounds if they are inexpensive. This will be for longer shots. I already have a gun that uses 7.62. In the future I hope to get one (if not more) weapons that are 308. The 7.62 VEPR only has 5 round mags while the 308 has 5,10, and 20 round mags.
