Long time lurker, first post: My mindset for losing weight.
Hey guys, I want to start out by saying this subreddit is by far the most influential thing to happen to my weight loss journey in a long time. Reading all of these success stories and non-scale victories is awesome.
So I've been reading r/loseit for a few months now, since then I've been on and off trying to start my diet. A few weeks ago I hit an all time high of 350lbs, and I freaked out. Since then I'm down 15 pounds and I'm going strong. I've slipped up in the past, and I may slip up again in the future, but for once I don't feel like I will. The thing is though I wouldn't be where I am if it wasn't for one thing. I never gave up, and I never will.
When it comes down to it you have to just keep trying. I know this doesn't feel that simple, but let me break it down a little bit. This journey is not easy, but what are the consequences of trying? If you don't try, if you don't get back up on that horse, you are really resigning yourself to an early grave. If you keep trying to lose, even if you fail over and over again what is the consequence? At the very worst you are exactly where you started, but eventually you will find that as long as you don't give up you will start to make progress. You CAN be healthy, and trying again even after a million failures doesn't lose you anything. I've experienced the disappointment of failure many many times, but I know I would regret it even more if I gave up. My favorite thing in the world to keep me motivated is this: “In life you either pay the price of discipline or the price of regret.”
Hope that helps, and I hope I followed the posting guidelines. : )
TLDR : Never give up! The consequences are a lot worse if you do!
