Help with configuring a Laptop to Play Dwarf Fortress.

After looking through the wiki, I still cannot figure out how to configure DF to play on my laptop. I've got an HP 2000 Notebook with Windows 7 and the keyboard doesn't seem to have the option for an "unlockable" numpad. There's a function key to get the f# keys, though. Just thought I'd ask here since I'm not exactly great at getting settings to work with my game.

Update: After a bit of experimenting and having FUN, I finally just broke down and got a USB numpad. I do thank you all for the help though.
