Might sound like a stupid question, but, how does an EE get into the renewable energy industry?

I'm starting university next year to become an EE (in Chile not US), I love the idea of EE and all I wanna do is work in the "green industry" as an EE so, how does an EE do it? How would one be involved in the projects? Does it depend a lot on the goverment support for renewables?
