Should I keep watching Higurashi no Naku Koro ni?

I started watching Higurashi because I heard a lot of good things about it and thought I would give it a try. I got through 10-ish episodes and really tried to like it, but I just couldn't really connect. The format the show runs at (with the 4-5 episode stories) doesn't really work for me, and none of the characters have been extremely likable to me.

So does this show pick up at some point and suprise me or does it just continue at this pace?
