As bad as this sounds has anybody else nearly kill their pet accidentally?

Today I drove around the whole city and on my way home I stopped at a gas station and heard a cat meowing. I thought it was a stray cat until I noticed it was coming from the front of my car and I thought it sounded familiar until I realized it was coming from the inside of my hood. I popped it open and there it was. My freakin cat. I took it out and put it inside my truck thinking what if it would've baked. When I opened up my hood it was pretty hot considering today's weather was hot plus it is an engine, and I was driving almost all day long. Anybody else have a near accidental pet death experience?
