2X, Please help me in the field of love. I'm losing someone who shared 3 years with me, and I want to know how to show him that it's worth trying to get through this part where he doesn't think he's in love with me anymore, even though he still cares about me.
I've been in love with the same guy for just over 3 years, since we started dating in March 2009. Less than a week ago he told me he didn't think he was in love with me anymore. He said he still cares and loves me, which really does make me more confused.
I keep fighting it. I don't want to give up. We're still in our last year at school so I see him everyday, we've got the same large group of friends.
We had such a good relationship for so long, I don't know why he suddenly seems to forget that we were and are still something very special. We never really fought a lot, or even much. We really loved each other.
I read the letters he gave me and some I'd given him, they just held so much love. I don't know how he forgot or lost his way.
If he wasn't worth fighting for I wouldn't be here. I've always been happy to think of our future together. He said it's been a couple of months since he's felt this way. He says he didn't want to hurt me. That he was going to keep it to himself, except I realized something was wrong and finally realized what it was and he didn't deny it.
I know he still loves me, cares, trusts me and he wants me to be happy. He is just struggling with the in part of being in love. And he seems to think it's too hard to get it to work again. I just want him to see that after this long and all those happy times and loving times we shared - the effort to become a couple again, is worth it.
Another thing I think he might be thinking about is, if we do get through this and he falls in love again, next year we might end up moving away to separate universities. I think that may be something on his mind. We'd talked about it earlier in the year and he hadn't seemed quite hopeful really, but eventually he said 'I love you, and I will try long distance if that happens, I will really try.'
I've never had a break up before, he is my first boyfriend. Actually he's been my first everything, my first love, kiss, we gave our virginity to each other. I know that since we're only 17 that there is a whole life out there yet, but I want to give this one another go before I truly have to let go. He is a good person, with an incredible soul to his being. I'm not being naive, he really is this person. He still has his little flaws like everyone, but who he is really out weighs those flaws.
I've already got him to agree to go on a date together this holiday (little over a week and a half), so we can at least try. But he doesn't seem to be real optimistic about it. I want to show him that I can still be that light in his life - even when he gets lost. But most of all I want him to remember that everyone falls out of love, it's just that you can't fall out of love at the same time if you want to keep trying.
I've sort of considered copying a few of the letters he sent me, and letting him see that we really did have amazing times together, and still can. I don't know if that's what I should do though.
We've also decided to have space until the date. Where we're on a 'break'. It's really hard for me, because I'm still so in love with him, and memories of us are everywhere in my room, including my bed where we lost our virginity. We were once at a time where we we together every Tuesday, Thursday and generally weekends after school for two years. This last one not so much with all the homework and assignments. But even then until this term (which was quite hard) we still loved each other unconditionally.
What can I do, so he remember all the amazing times we've spent together?
(Please don't tell me to let go, I have enough people to say that. And enough people saying "plenty of fish in the sea".)
