Alternatives to Nuzlocke
Hello, new(ish) subreddit!
It seems like Nuzlocke is the only Pokemon challenge given much serious attention. Here's the thing: I'm not a big fan of Nuzlocke (I think it discourages risk-taking and strategy in favor of power-levelling, which isn't really challenging as much as tedious...) but I'm looking for more ways to introduce difficulty to the main-series Pokemon games for those of us without the patience (or cheating devices) required for competitive battling.
One obvious idea is single-type challenges (beating the game using only pokemon of X type), which require you to strategize carefully in order to get the coverage you need to overcome common weaknesses. I have done several of these in different generations and had a lot of fun with them. But there is the obvious difficulty that in a given generation, only a handful of types are available close to the start of a game (and if you aren't using one of them, it ends up more like "beat the second half of the game using only the given type).
Are there any other interesting Pokemon challenges out there that people have either tried or thought about trying?
