Fimo pieces questions

So, I just bought a set of Cina fimo fruit pieces. The instructions say that I need the bonder stuff to apply them. Is this absolutely true? I didn't realize I needed it before I left Sally's, and I kinda don't want to buy it unless I have to. The instructions say that the fimo pieces won't stick to wet polish. I'm just confused.
