Regarding Aang and Katara's last child... (spoilers)

So when Amon had Tenzin and his children bound and was about to take their bending he said something along the lines of that he was about to rid the world of Airbending forever. So, had he already gotten to Kya by this point, or was she already dead? This is probably the only thing that really bothered me about the ending.
